About Bechtel Corporation and the Role

Bechtel Corporation is establishing a new Energy office in Al Khobar, Saudi Arabia, intended to serve as a regional center for engineering projects. This initiative supports Bechtel's long-standing presence in the Kingdom and its contributions to Saudi Arabia's Vision 2030 through oil, gas, chemical, and New Energies projects. We are seeking a Senior Environmental Engineer to join our team in a full-time capacity in Al Khobar, Eastern region.

This role is suitable for a self-motivated, high-performing engineer with 5-10 years of proven experience in environmental design across various technologies. The successful candidate will apply significant knowledge in all areas of design, from conceptual studies to detailed engineering, and will be recognized for their understanding of environmental engineering within the industry.

Core Responsibilities

  • Prepare environmental engineering deliverables related to regulatory compliance, air emissions, and water/wastewater treatment.
  • Prepare, coordinate, and review designs, studies, reports, and proposals.
  • Coordinate design development of systems with other engineering disciplines, managing workload and meeting schedule due dates.
  • Perform standard discipline engineering activities on projects with minimal technical oversight.
  • Work independently while possessing the self-awareness to request support when needed.
  • Coordinate complex technical issues with other engineering departments on projects.
  • Prioritize tasks and operate effectively within a fast-paced project environment.

Project-Specific Duties

  • Develop environmental design basis, process flow diagrams, and equipment datasheets.
  • Contribute to other discipline deliverables, including P&IDs, plot plans, and philosophies.
  • Review permit material for air and effluent emission compliance.
  • Attend key meetings such as HAZID/ENVID, P&IDs review, HAZOP, and 3D model review, providing environmental input.
  • Compile technical lists and inventories, including emissions and effluents summaries.
  • Ensure projects comply with state, federal, and local environmental regulations.
  • Support engineering and other project disciplines in understanding and applying regulatory requirements based on permits and legislation.
  • Develop execution strategies and planning for project permitting.
  • Ensure regulatory approvals are in place to support project execution.

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • A recognized master’s degree in Environmental, Chemical, or Mechanical Engineering from an accredited college or university.
  • A professional license or chartership in an appropriate engineering discipline from a recognized licensing board or professional institution.
  • 5-10 years of experience in environmental engineering.
  • Experience in executing Middle Eastern projects, brownfield experience, and familiarity with Aramco and Royal Commission standards and specifications is highly desirable.
  • Experience in Concept, Pre-FEED, and FEED projects.

Essential Skills and Knowledge

  • Excellent knowledge of technical theory, engineering principles, good engineering practices, and their application for design execution.
  • Understanding of typical industrial equipment air emissions sources and the combustion or process pollutants of concern.
  • Proficiency in undertaking calculations such as air emissions, basic equipment sizing, and water balance.
  • Strong focus on quality of work while achieving key deadlines.
  • Familiarity with major regulations and industry codes and standards affecting standard design, quality, or processes, including state and federal requirements.
  • Working understanding of the Saudi Arabian regulatory framework, including environmental permitting and approvals processes.
  • Excellent understanding of major project delivery, including the design process and typical project design deliverables.

Work Environment and Location

This is a full-time position based in Al Khobar, Eastern region, Saudi Arabia. The role requires willingness to undertake travel within the Middle East region as needed.
