Senior Planning Engineer

About the Role

AtkinsRéalis is seeking a Senior Planning Engineer to be based in Al ‘Ulá, Al Madinah, Saudi Arabia. This full-time position involves supporting the successful delivery of high-profile mixed-use developments, hospitality destinations, cultural assets, and recreational landmark projects across the Middle East.

Role Overview

The Senior Planning Engineer will be responsible for developing, maintaining, and monitoring project schedules. This includes providing strategic planning support and delivering schedule performance analysis throughout all phases of project delivery, from initiation to completion.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop initial baseline schedules with limited project information for various development types.
• Assist in preparing and managing overview and strategic programs, including design, procurement, and construction schedules.
• Coordinate the preparation and development of master planning, engineering, procurement, and construction schedules.
• Establish and agree upon project reporting procedures, preparing and presenting monthly project progress reports.
• Develop project and program dashboard templates for use by designers and contractors.
• Review schedules and related documents from designers and contractors, including monthly reports, to ensure compliance with project objectives.
• Monitor actual progress against planned progress and identify deviations in construction and procurement.
• Prepare progress monitoring tools using earned value for schedule management.
• Work with the Project Controls Manager and Project Team to ensure program feasibility and compliance with contractual documents.
• Interface daily with designers, PMCs, main contractors, subcontractors, and internal management.
• Conduct studies into scheduling, manpower, cash flow, and material flow as required.
• Review schedules for key date slippage and assist in the defense or approval of time extension claims.
• Ensure planning engineers maintain professional standards and information currency within their sections.
• Establish and maintain consistent administration procedures for planning across the project.
• Identify and report main issues interfering with progress and suggest measures for improving schedule performance.
• Develop and monitor program KPIs and monitor the timing of submittals against schedule requirements.

Qualifications and Experience

• A minimum of 10 years of experience in planning engineering roles.
• Demonstrated ability to develop initial baseline schedules with minimal project information.
• Experience with mixed-use developments, hospitality destinations, cultural assets, and recreational landmark projects.
• Proficiency in establishing and maintaining consistent administrative and reporting procedures.

Work Environment

This role is based in Al Ula, Medina, Saudi Arabia, and operates on a full-time basis within AtkinsRéalis. The position requires close collaboration with project teams, designers, contractors, and clients, including attending offsite meetings as requested.
