About the Role

BYD is seeking a Technical Support Engineer (Protection Engineering) to join our team in Bishah, 'Asir, Saudi Arabia. This full-time position is central to ensuring the reliable operation of our products by providing expert protection engineering support and resolving technical issues for our customers. The role involves comprehensive on-site management and maintenance of energy storage systems.

System Management and Oversight

The successful candidate will be responsible for the management and maintenance of critical protection infrastructure, including:

• Managing and maintaining protection devices, such as Intelligent Electronic Devices (IEDs), for Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) containers, Power Conversion Systems (PCS), and the High Voltage (HV) substation.
• Reviewing and implementing protection settings, logic diagrams, and conducting various coordination studies, including Overcurrent, Distance, and Differential.
• Leading or supervising secondary injection testing, Current Transformer (CT)/Voltage Transformer (VT) testing, and functional trip tests.

Fault Analysis and Resolution

A core function of this role is to diagnose and resolve system disturbances efficiently. Key responsibilities include:

• Conducting thorough root-cause analysis for any protection trips or system disturbances.
• Providing detailed technical reports to clients based on fault analysis findings.
• Addressing technical issues on site promptly to ensure reliable system operation and minimize downtime.

Client Engagement and On-Site Operations

The engineer will serve as a primary technical liaison and manage essential on-site activities:

• Acting as the primary technical point of contact for clients regarding protection schemes.
• Justifying protection settings and schemes during technical meetings with clients.
• Being responsible for the installation, commissioning, repair, and maintenance of energy storage systems on site.
• Adhering to the work arrangements established by the site leader.

Required Experience

Candidates for this position should demonstrate a strong background in protection engineering, with:

• 5-10 years of relevant professional experience.
