About the Metrology Engineer (Calibration) Role

BAE Systems is seeking a Metrology Engineer specializing in Calibration to join its operations in Dhahran. This full-time position involves applying scientific principles to ensure the accuracy and reliability of measurement systems. The role requires a commitment to maintaining high standards within a critical support function for the Royal Saudi Air Force (RSAF).

Role Purpose and Responsibilities

The Metrology Engineer is responsible for developing, documenting, and maintaining calibration systems, procedures, and methods for a range of equipment, including mechanical, pressure/vacuum, temperature, humidity, dimensional, and Test Measuring and Diagnostic Equipment (TMDE). This includes evaluating new calibration techniques, utilizing statistical analysis for measurement standards and processes, and recommending appropriate calibration standards and TMDE. The role also involves maintaining the calibration laboratory and its associated quality systems, performing laboratory and departmental administration, and contributing to the RSAF Metrology programme.

Key Accountabilities

• Applying measurement science, mathematics, and physics to calibration processes.
• Developing and documenting calibration systems, procedures, and methods.
• Evaluating new calibration methods and procedures.
• Using statistics to analyze measurement standards and processes.
• Recommending calibration standards and TMDE.
• Maintaining the calibration laboratory and quality systems.
• Performing laboratory and/or departmental administration and management.
• Carrying out engineering evaluations and analysis of data.
• Maintaining documentation traceability and writing procedures.
• Assisting MetCal Wing/Calibration Squadrons to fulfill RSAF calibration requirements.
• Assisting Engineering Services and Metrologists in preparing multidiscipline procedures and reports.

Qualifications and Experience

Candidates should possess formal training (civilian or military) in electronic, electro-mechanical, or instrument-mechanical areas, and have completed a recognized Graduate training program. A formal qualification to ** degree level in Physics, Electrical or Electronics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Computer Science is required. The role demands the ability to write clear, concise reports and to analyze and resolve calibration and metrology problems using engineering judgment. A minimum of five years of relevant practical experience in an engineering metrology, calibration facility, or allied functions is necessary. Preference will be given to candidates with experience within a commercial aviation security environment.
