About the Assistant Consultant, Medical Oncology Role

King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Center is seeking an Assistant Consultant in Medical Oncology to join their team in Medina. This full-time position involves providing comprehensive medical care within the Medical Oncology department, supervising trainees, and contributing to academic and research initiatives. The role requires a professional with 2-5 years of experience in the field.

Clinical Responsibilities

The Assistant Consultant will support the Consultant in delivering high-quality patient care in Medical Oncology, adhering to hospital standards and approved clinical privileges. Key responsibilities include:

  • Assisting in the provision of required patient care and management in Medical Oncology.
  • Providing high-quality patient care across all aspects of Medical Oncology.
  • Responding to consultation requests from inpatient and emergency room settings in a timely manner.
  • Ensuring the timely completion, accuracy, and legibility of medical records.
  • Providing on-call services and ensuring availability within prescribed timeframes.
  • Conducting daily morning rounds to identify patients ready for discharge and ensuring discharge orders are written 24 hours prior.
  • Performing other clinical responsibilities as assigned within the specialty.

Academic and Research Contributions

This role extends to academic and research activities, fostering a learning environment and contributing to medical advancements. Responsibilities include:

  • Providing orientation, bedside training, and supervision to interns, residents, and fellows.
  • Participating in departmental educational activities and training programs.
  • Attending national and international medical conferences to maintain and enhance professional knowledge.
  • Participating in clinical, basic, and translational research projects to advance knowledge and improve postgraduate education.

Administrative Duties

The Assistant Consultant will undertake administrative tasks to support departmental operations and contribute to the efficient functioning of the hospital. This includes:

  • Fulfilling administrative duties assigned by the Head of Section or Chairman.
  • Serving on departmental and hospital committees as required.
  • Assisting in the development and implementation of techniques to maximize resource utilization.
  • Adhering to hospital bylaws, rules, regulations, and policies, and staying updated on any changes.
  • Participating in self and others' education, training, and development.
  • Performing other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Experience

Candidates for this position must meet specific educational and professional requirements:

  • Graduation from a medical school in good standing.
  • Completion of the required period of postgraduate training in Medical Oncology.
  • Possession of Saudi/American Board, Canadian/UK certification, or equivalent as determined by the Medical Staff Credentialing Committee.
  • A minimum of two (2) years of post-training experience in the specialty and subspecialty.
  • Arabic language proficiency is preferred.
