Mechanical Engineer

About the Role

Dar Al Riyadh Consultants is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to join their team in Medina. This full-time role involves supervising mechanical works for the renovation of a high-rise, five-star hotel, ensuring compliance with various codes and standards. The position requires a minimum of 10 years of experience in mechanical building services and construction supervision.

Key Responsibilities

• Supervise mechanical works for the renovation of a high-rise, five-star hotel.
• Ensure all mechanical installations comply with approved drawings, project specifications, Saudi Building Code, NFPA requirements, ASHRAE standards, and hotel operator criteria.
• Review mechanical shop drawings, material submittals, method statements, hydraulic calculations, equipment data sheets, and ventilation schedules.
• Supervise the upgrade and replacement of chillers, cooling towers, pumps, AHUs, FCUs, heat exchangers, and related central plant equipment.
• Oversee chilled-water piping, insulation, valves, controls, and associated HVAC distribution systems.
• Verify that guestroom HVAC systems meet luxury hotel requirements for temperature control, indoor air quality, noise levels, and vibration.
• Supervise plumbing and drainage works, including domestic hot and cold-water systems, booster pumps, drainage stacks, grease interceptors, and commercial kitchen services.
• Oversee fire suppression, smoke-extraction, stair-pressurization, and mechanical life-safety systems.
• Coordinate mechanical installations with architectural, structural, electrical, interior design, and fire and life-safety requirements.
• Resolve clashes between existing building services and new mechanical installations.
• Conduct site inspections, identify defective or non-compliant work, and monitor corrective actions.
• Witness pressure testing, flushing, cleaning, disinfection, equipment start-up, and performance testing.
• Lead Testing, Adjusting and Balancing (TAB) and support the final commissioning of all mechanical systems.
• Review testing reports, as-built drawings, operation and maintenance manuals, warranties, and handover documents.
• Monitor progress and report technical issues, quality concerns, risks, and delays to the Project Manager or Resident Engineer.

Qualifications and Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited university.
• Valid Saudi Council of Engineers registration is mandatory.
• Minimum 15 years of experience in mechanical building services and construction supervision.
• Proven experience in high-rise buildings, five-star hotels, luxury hospitality developments, or major hotel renovation projects.
• Strong experience in central HVAC plants, chillers, cooling towers, chilled-water networks, AHUs, FCUs, pumps, plumbing, and drainage systems.
• Experience in fire suppression, smoke management, stair pressurization, and mechanical life-safety systems.
• Proven experience in central plant modernization, building-services replacement, and brownfield refurbishment.
• Previous experience working with an engineering consultancy or construction supervision consultant.
• Experience in mechanical testing, TAB, commissioning, and final handover.
• Experience in Madinah Central Area or similarly sensitive urban locations is preferred.
• Certified Commissioning Professional, ASHRAE membership, or an equivalent professional credential is preferred.

Required Skills and Knowledge

• Strong knowledge of the Saudi Building Code, ASHRAE standards, NFPA requirements, and applicable international codes.
• Knowledge of hotel acoustic requirements, Noise Criteria levels, vibration control, and indoor environmental standards.
• Ability to review mechanical drawings, hydraulic calculations, equipment selections, technical submittals, and coordination documents.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, BIM coordination, and relevant mechanical engineering software.
• Fluency in written and spoken English is mandatory; Arabic is preferred.

Work Environment

This is a full-time position based in Medina, focusing on site supervision within a dynamic project environment.
