About the Role

Bupa Arabia is seeking an Assistant Consultant Internal Medicine & Hematology for a full-time position in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. This role involves providing comprehensive medical care to adult patients within telemedicine settings, covering both general internal medicine and the subspecialty of hematology. The consultant will deliver evidence-based assessment, diagnosis, and management of various acute and chronic conditions, focusing on population health management and value-based care to optimize patient outcomes and experience.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive telehealth consultations, including thorough history taking and review of systems, for adult patients with general medical and hematological complaints.
• Assess, diagnose, and manage a broad range of acute and chronic internal medicine conditions across multiple organ systems, including undifferentiated and multimorbid presentations.
• Assess, diagnose, and manage the full spectrum of benign and malignant blood disorders, such as anemias, hemoglobinopathies, bleeding disorders, and hematologic malignancies.
• Order and interpret general and specialized investigations, including complete blood counts, coagulation profiles, and imaging results.
• Develop and implement personalized, evidence-based treatment plans, encompassing medication management, chronic disease control, and referrals to relevant specialties.
• Initiate, adjust, and monitor pharmacological and hematological therapies, overseeing ongoing care based on clinical outcomes and patient feedback.
• Collaborate with primary care physicians, medical subspecialists, oncologists, and other healthcare professionals to ensure seamless, coordinated patient care.
• Practice population health management by identifying and addressing health issues at the community level, implementing preventive measures, and promoting health education.
• Document findings and treatment plans meticulously in patient records.

Quality Assurance and Compliance

• Communicate effectively with patients and their families, providing clear explanations of diagnoses, treatment options, and follow-up care.
• Adhere to all relevant medical regulations, ethical guidelines, and quality assurance standards for both in-person and telehealth practice.
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of internal medicine and hematology clinical guidelines, as well as telehealth regulations and best practices.
• Participate in quality improvement initiatives, research activities, and clinical audits to enhance patient care and outcomes.
• Regularly review compliance protocols, participate in training, and collaborate with compliance officers to meet regulatory standards.
• Prepare accurate and complete reports for audits and inspections, implementing necessary adjustments as regulations change.

Professional Development and Telehealth Proficiency

• Continuously enhance professional knowledge and skills in internal medicine, hematology, and telehealth best practices.
• Attend relevant conferences, workshops, and online courses to stay abreast of advancements in diagnostics, therapeutics, and telehealth delivery.
• Maintain accurate and complete patient records in accordance with applicable data-protection and privacy regulations.
• Maintain proficiency in utilizing the designated telehealth platform, including video conferencing, secure messaging, and electronic health record (EHR) integration.
• Actively participate in training programs and stay updated on platform enhancements, collaborating with IT support for technical issues.

Patient Safety and Team Collaboration

• Maintain compliance with all patient safety standards and report any patient safety risks or issues to the appropriate quality department staff.
• Practice safe medicine to prevent patient harm, with particular attention to medication safety, anticoagulation safety, transfusion safety, and chemotherapy-related risks.
• Explain medications, including indications, side effects, and proper use, to patients.
• Ensure satisfactory patient consultations through effective communication, complete history taking, empathy, clear explanation of diagnosis and management plans, and answering patient queries.
• Monitor patient feedback, address concerns promptly, and implement safety protocols to minimize risks during consultations.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including internal medicine subspecialties, oncology, transfusion medicine, laboratory, and primary care, to optimize patient care.
• Share insights and recommendations to support patient-centered care approaches, facilitating communication between team members regarding patient status and needs.
• Mentor junior staff and provide training on clinical protocols.

Required Qualifications

• Proven experience as an Internal Medicine & Hematology Senior Registrar or a similar role, preferably within a hospital or clinical setting.
• Commitment to ongoing professional development and staying abreast of the latest advancements in internal medicine and hematology, with a focus on diabetology, population health management, and value-based care.
