Director of Hardware Engineering

About the Role

Think is seeking a Director of Hardware Engineering to lead the end-to-end development of its AI Node line. This full-time position is based in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, and involves ownership of thermal, electrical, mechanical, manufacturing, and supply chain aspects. The role is critical for achieving the density required for high-performance AI nodes.

Key Responsibilities

• Own the hardware roadmap for the Node line, encompassing designs from desk-side to rack scale.
• Develop and manage thermal architecture, including sealed loops, heat exchange paths, flow distribution, and pressure monitoring to address thermal challenges.
• Establish and maintain engineering standards for design review, simulation gates, thermal qualification, leak testing, and supplier qualification.
• Review all validation cycles and prototypes prior to manufacturing.
• Lead failure analysis for units returned from the field and foster a corrective action culture.
• Build and lead a multidisciplinary team covering thermal, electrical, mechanical, firmware, and validation, including hiring team leaders.
• Collaborate with software engineering on the telemetry interface between hardware and ILM.

Qualifications and Experience

• A minimum of ten years of experience in hardware engineering, with at least four years leading multidisciplinary teams.
• Demonstrated expertise in at least two of the following areas: high-density accelerated compute, liquid cooling at scale, data center hardware, or HPC server architecture.
• Proven experience taking hardware from concept through simulation, prototype, verification, qualification, and volume production.
• Proficiency in thermal management, including heat transfer, single and two-phase liquid cooling, interface materials, manifold design, pump selection, and redundancy.
• Strong foundation in electrical design for multi-kilowatt power delivery, mechanical chassis design, vibration, sealing, and manufacturability.
• Ability to function as a player-coach, engaging on the workshop floor, in supplier audits, and at customer sites.
• Candidates must be based in Riyadh or willing to relocate.

Preferred Qualifications

• Direct experience in designing custom liquid cooling solutions at scale.
• Simulation experience with tools such as Fluent, SolidWorks Flow, or OpenFOAM.
• Leadership experience in supply chain management, including supplier qualification, dual sourcing, and cost engineering.
• Experience as a founding engineer or hardware leader at a deep-tech company that achieved volume production.
