About the Environmental Specialist Role

Aspec for Contracting and Environmental Consultancy is seeking an experienced Environmental Specialist to join its team in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. This full-time position requires a professional with 5-10 years of relevant experience to manage and enhance environmental performance across various projects.

Role Purpose and Objectives

The Environmental Specialist will be responsible for conducting comprehensive environmental assessments, site inspections, and monitoring activities. A primary objective is to analyze data and prepare reports that contribute to minimizing environmental risks and improving the environmental performance of projects. The role also ensures compliance with applicable Saudi environmental laws, regulations, permits, contractual requirements, and international standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the preparation and implementation of Environmental Management Plans (EMP), Environmental and Social Management Plans (ESMP), and project-specific environmental procedures.
  • Participate in Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA) and environmental baseline studies.
  • Conduct environmental site assessments, audits, inspections, and compliance reviews.
  • Assess potential environmental impacts associated with construction, industrial, waste-management, and infrastructure activities.
  • Perform routine inspections of project sites, facilities, workshops, storage areas, waste-handling areas, and temporary camps.
  • Monitor air quality, noise, wastewater, groundwater, soil, emissions, dust, odor, and other applicable environmental parameters.
  • Identify environmental non-conformities and risks, issue corrective-action requests, and follow up until closure.
  • Assist in obtaining and renewing environmental permits, approvals, and licenses.
  • Support the implementation and maintenance of an Environmental Management System in accordance with ISO 14001.
  • Participate in internal and external environmental audits.

Reporting and Data Management

  • Prepare daily, weekly, monthly, and annual environmental reports.
  • Collect, review, validate, and analyze environmental monitoring data.
  • Maintain records of inspections, permits, incidents, complaints, waste quantities, training, and corrective actions.

Qualifications and Experience

Candidates for this role must possess 5-10 years of professional experience in environmental management or a closely related field. A strong understanding of environmental assessment methodologies, monitoring techniques, and regulatory frameworks is essential.

Work Environment and Collaboration

This full-time position is based in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The role involves close coordination with various stakeholders, including regulatory authorities, clients, consultants, contractors, and subcontractors, to ensure successful project outcomes and compliance.
