About the Ground Support Services (GSS) Lead Role

BAE Systems Saudi Arabia is seeking a Ground Support Services (GSS) Lead to join their team in Taif. This full-time position involves providing supervision and technical expertise for Ground Support Systems, ensuring their continuous availability to support the Royal Saudi Air Force (RSAF) Typhoon Fleet. The role is critical for maintaining mission-critical GSS operations and serviceability. BAE Systems Saudi Arabia is committed to supporting national objectives, including Saudisation and the development of Saudi national capabilities.

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities

The GSS Lead will oversee and deliver both the administrative and technical aspects of GSS. Key duties include:

  • Supervising and undertaking activities to support the GSS administration service.
  • Ensuring adherence to all Safety, Health, and Environment (SHE) and Quality Assurance standards across GSS activities, in compliance with relevant regulations and procedures.
  • Verifying that all Continuing Airworthiness and maintenance activities within GSS are conducted according to current processes and procedures.
  • Ensuring the continuous availability of all mission-critical GSS systems supporting Typhoon operations.
  • Delivering all Typhoon GSS Administration activities related to the availability, mobilization, and maintenance of GSS installations for RSAF Typhoon operations at main operating bases and deployed locations within KSA.
  • Managing the installation, configuration, operation, and maintenance of system hardware and software for the GSS Operational infrastructure.
  • Supervising ESS and MSS hardware and software build activities.
  • Providing direct supervision to GSS personnel based on their skills and competency.
  • Ensuring system builds and maintenance are performed in accordance with Approved Data and qualified processes.
  • Planning and implementing system upgrades.
  • Assisting with knowledge transfer, coaching, and counterpart development with RSAF GSS System Administrators and PC SNs.
  • Highlighting any issues that may impact GSS availability.
  • Deputizing for the GSS Team Leader when required.

Required Qualifications and Experience

Candidates must meet the following essential criteria:

  • A recognized qualification to NVQ3/ONC/OND/BTEC level in a relevant technical, IT, or computer science discipline, or a technical apprenticeship, or an equivalent technical qualification approved by M&CA.
  • Extensive proven relevant work experience in operational Information Technology.
  • Substantial proven experience in a relevant management role.
  • Practitioner level skills in supporting aircraft ground capability, such as mission planning or maintenance management systems.
  • Familiar knowledge of aircraft operation environments and aircraft weapon systems.
  • Practitioner level skills for managing maintenance in workshops.
  • Practitioner level of Management and Leadership experience, preferably within the defence aviation domain.
  • Practitioner level of communication skills.
  • High interpersonal skills, with the ability to coordinate activities and influence decision-making.
  • Relevant GSS hardware qualifications (*, Fujitsu, NetApp, Cisco).
  • Relevant GSS software qualifications (*, MS Windows, Oracle, AIX).
  • Aircraft data management experience.
  • TeamCenter experience.
  • IMS experience.
  • trilogiView experience.
  • WDMS experience.
  • The successful candidate, whether Saudi or Expatriate, must obtain Saudi Council of Engineers (SCE) membership at the appropriate level before commencing employment and maintain it throughout their tenure in this role.

  • Practitioner level of coaching and mentoring skills.
  • Practitioner level of understanding of personnel authorisations.
  • Familiar knowledge of Continuing Airworthiness.
  • Understanding and application of human factors, error management, health & safety, and proactive hazard analysis relevant to the role.

Desirable Attributes

The following are considered desirable:

  • Aircraft operational and/or maintenance data management experience.
  • Knowledge of BAE Systems Saudi Arabia and the Royal Saudi Air Force.
  • Broad aerospace and defence company/industry knowledge.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to prioritize and deliver tasks on time.
  • Practitioner level of Project Management skills.

Work Context

This is a full-time position based in Taif, Saudi Arabia. The role offers a competitive salary. BAE Systems Saudi Arabia operates under Government-to-Government arrangements, providing equipment, support, and training to Saudi Arabia, including maintenance of RSAF aircraft and training for RSAF and Royal Saudi Naval Force personnel.
