About the Role

Sheraton is seeking a full-time Director of Finance to serve as the strategic financial business leader for the property. This role involves developing and implementing property-wide strategies to deliver products and services that meet or exceed customer and employee expectations. The Director of Finance provides financial expertise to support the brand service strategy and initiatives, aiming to maximize return on investment.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop methods to improve profit, including cost/benefit analysis and exploring new business opportunities.
• Analyze information, forecast sales against expenses, and create annual budget plans.
• Compile, analyze, and monitor actual sales against projected sales.
• Analyze differences between actual and forecasted wages for efficient budget planning.
• Identify underlying principles, reasons, or facts by breaking down information or data.
• Develop, execute, and implement new business plans.
• Create the annual operating budget for the property.
• Provide analytical support during budget reviews to identify cost-saving and productivity opportunities.
• Implement appropriate controls to manage business risks and safeguard assets.
• Analyze financial data and market trends.
• Lead the development and implementation of a comprehensive annual business plan aligned with company and brand strategy.
• Provide ongoing analytical support by monitoring operating department sales.
• Produce accurate forecasts to enable operational adjustments.

Leadership and Communication

• Utilize interpersonal and communication skills to lead, influence, and encourage sound financial/business decision-making.
• Communicate strategic goals, focus, and owner priorities clearly to subordinates.
• Influence the executive team and property strategies through strong functional leadership.
• Oversee internal, external, and regulatory audit processes.
• Provide leadership by assigning clear accountability to team members and department managers.
• Conduct annual performance appraisals with direct reports.
• Attend meetings and communicate with owners, understanding their priorities.
• Advise the General Manager and executive committee on operating/financial issues.
• Communicate financial concepts clearly and persuasively.
• Manage communication with owners effectively.

Financial Management and Compliance

• Manage property working capital and cash flow in accordance with brand standards and owner requirements.
• Ensure Profits and Losses are documented accurately.
• Monitor all applicable taxes, ensuring they are current, collected, and/or accrued.
• Submit reports in a timely manner, meeting delivery deadlines.
• Generate and provide accurate and timely results in reports and presentations.
• Reconcile balance sheets to ensure account balances are supported by documentation.
• Ensure the P&L is accurate, with costs properly matched to revenue and recorded in correct accounts.
• Ensure compliance with management contract, reporting requirements, and operating procedures.

Team Development and Operations

• Develop and support achievement of performance, budget, and team goals.
• Improve profit growth in operating departments.
• Review audit issues to ensure accuracy.
• Monitor the purchasing process as applicable.
• Ensure team members are cross-trained for successful daily operations.
• Ensure property policies are administered fairly and consistently.
• Ensure new hires participate in department orientation and receive appropriate training.
• Create development plans for team members based on strengths, needs, and aspirations.
• Conduct performance review processes for employees and participate in hiring activities.

Qualifications and Experience

Candidates should possess 2-5 years of relevant experience. The role requires strong functional leadership and communication skills, demonstrating honesty and integrity, and leading by example. A clear understanding of cash flow and owner priorities is essential.
