About the Opportunity

Wood is seeking a TPE V / Principal Piping Engineer to join our project team in Saudi Arabia. This full-time role is integral to a significant Mining Project, requiring specialized expertise in piping engineering and the ability to manage complex assignments.

Role Overview

The Principal Piping Engineer provides essential discipline expertise to the business, performing engineering assignments and producing a range of engineering deliverables. This position requires the evaluation, selection, and adaptation of standard techniques, procedures, and criteria to perform tasks, working largely unsupervised on most aspects of the work. The role involves acting as a document originator for design engineering and analysis.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform all conventional aspects of design engineering and analysis, acting as a document originator.
• Create and review designs, drawings, specifications, and other engineering deliverables, involving both existing and new technology and applications.
• Establish detailed designs and performance specifications to fulfill the requirements of assigned general specifications for components, systems, and processes.
• Plan and carry out successive steps, handling problems with general guidance from instructions, policies, and precedents.
• Develop a range of engineering deliverables, including specifications, calculations, reports, and technical requisitions.
• Interpret specifications, investigate difficulties, and review vendor documents.
• Actively participate in design reviews and provide technical input and support to proposals as required.

Technical Expertise and Problem Solving

• Demonstrate expertise in layout and material, possessing stress analysis knowledge, and focusing on an area of specialization.
• Proficiently use relevant software and calculation templates, with experience in S3d/E3D environments on major projects.
• Comprehend and interpret technical information applicable to the engineering discipline, demonstrating the application of theory in a practical context.
• Solve problems involving new concepts and varied issues demanding technical expertise, increased innovations, or considerable modifications of precedents.
• Conduct problem-solving in the area of expertise, involving new concepts and varied problems demanding technical investigation and interpretation.
• Develop alternative solutions, identifying risks and benefits, and addressing non-recurring problems by appraising and evaluating various precedents and data.
• Exercise professional judgment in selecting and interpreting information and modifying standard methods and procedures.

Qualifications and Professional Attributes

• A minimum of 5-10 years of experience in a relevant engineering field.
• Fully qualified to execute most standard and straightforward engineering activities, working unsupervised on most aspects of work.
• Good communication skills, exhibiting a positive attitude, collaborative spirit, and issue-resolving skills.
• Responsible for meeting discipline cost and schedule requirements in the production of deliverables, coordinating own work schedule, and preparing progress reports.
• Ability to recommend changes in plans and estimated costs when necessary.
• In consultancy business areas, may deliver small-scale projects with responsibility for cost, schedule, resource allocation, and risk, while working within an established program management plan.
