About the Corrosion Engineer Role

Saudi Aramco Total Refining and Petrochemical Company (SATORP) is seeking a Corrosion Engineer to join its team in Al Jubail, Eastern Region. This full-time position requires 5-10 years of experience in corrosion engineering to ensure the integrity of materials and plant equipment.

Role Overview and Responsibilities

The Corrosion Engineer will be responsible for supervising, coordinating, and developing standards related to corrosion engineering to maintain material design integrity. This includes updating plant corrosion manuals based on current operating conditions, latest codes, and standards, and recommending metallurgy upgrades. The role involves controlling and enforcing corrosion control policies, procedures, and techniques, and providing support to inspectors.

• Inspect plant equipment for corrosion and metallurgical issues.
• Coordinate with the Metallurgist and Services Laboratory to investigate equipment failures using destructive and non-destructive testing.
• Update corrosion manuals and Inspection Plans based on damage susceptibility, including data gathering, corrosion loop revision, risk assessment, and inspection planning.
• Liaise with chemical treatment contractors, lab departments, process & operations, and the Services Laboratory for plant sample analysis and chemical treatment validation.
• Coordinate qualification programs for asset integrity chemicals and interface with vendors.
• Communicate with international code committees on materials selection to ensure Company material specifications are considered for business requirements.
• Advise Inspection management on proposing new materials that meet business requirements with improved functionality.
• Ensure materials selection in FEED and design phases meets long-term asset integrity standards and approved Quality criteria.
• Monitor installed corrosion coupons and probes to assess corrosion levels.
• Review data, investigate corrosion problems, recommend material changes, and select new corrosion monitoring points.
• Monitor the cathodic protection system for effectiveness and reliability, and evaluate survey results.
• Prepare and review painting, coating, and lining procedures for various surfaces.
• Attend meetings with chemical treatment contractors to discuss and resolve water and corrosion problems, and evaluate new technologies.
• Provide technical assistance for selecting new coatings and supervise their application and inspection.
• Prepare and review technical reports on corrosion analyses for static pressure equipment and discuss findings with the Superintendent Inspection.
• Ensure damage susceptibility is addressed with RBI engineers.
• Review and approve major MOC modifications to Process Units regarding material compatibility.
• Stay updated on new corrosion mitigation techniques and NDT developments.
• Participate in regional and international conferences related to corrosion prevention.
• Support the Turnaround team in activity planning and ensure corrosion management preparations are completed.
• Provide feedback on corrosion control contractors' performance and recommend corrective actions.
• Participate in failure investigations related to static assets, ensuring safety policies and equipment maintenance.
• Prepare introductory courses on material-corrosion engineering.
• Provide training and development opportunities for employees in the section and assess their progress.

Education and Professional Qualifications

Candidates must possess a Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering or Metallurgical Engineering, or an equivalent qualification. Professional certifications are required, including NACE Refining Corrosion Technologist, NACE CIP Level 1, and NACE Basic Corrosion.
