About ABYAT and the Role

ABYAT, established in September 2005, is a prominent retail store in the Middle East, specializing in home improvement products such as tiles, wallpapers, lighting solutions, and kitchen fixtures. The company operates a large retail space spanning 22,000 square meters and offers over 22,000 products. With operations in Kuwait and Saudi Arabia, and plans for expansion into Qatar and the UAE, ABYAT is seeking a Chief Accountant to join its team in Riyadh. This full-time role is critical for overseeing daily accounting activities and ensuring the accuracy and timely recording of financial transactions.

Role Overview

The Chief Accountant will lead the accounting team, manage month-end and year-end closing processes, and ensure proper reconciliations and financial controls. This position supports accurate financial reporting in accordance with IFRS, local regulations, and ABYAT policies. The role requires a hands-on accounting professional capable of managing a high-volume environment and collaborating with Finance and other business functions to resolve accounting and operational issues.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee daily accounting activities, ensuring accurate and timely recording of transactions and maintaining the integrity of the General Ledger.
• Lead monthly, quarterly, and annual financial closing activities, including preparing and reviewing balance sheet and GL reconciliations.
• Ensure accurate accounting treatment of inventory, COGS, stock adjustments, write-offs, and provisions, coordinating with relevant operational teams.
• Maintain compliance with IFRS, company accounting policies, Delegation of Authority, and local regulatory requirements, ensuring effective financial controls.
• Prepare and review periodic accounting and financial reports, providing accurate financial information and supporting budgeting and forecasting processes.
• Lead, supervise, and develop accounting staff, allocating responsibilities, monitoring workload, and providing technical guidance.
• Ensure accurate accounting transactions and controls within SAP/ERP systems and identify opportunities for process improvement and automation.

Qualifications and Experience

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• A professional qualification such as CPA, CMA, ACCA, CA, or SOCPA is preferred.
• 8–12 years of progressive accounting experience, including 5-10 years in a supervisory or team leadership role.
• Strong hands-on experience in General Ledger, month-end closing, reconciliations, and financial reporting.
• In-depth knowledge of IFRS and financial controls.
• Experience within retail, distribution, building materials, home improvement, or another high-volume transactional business is highly preferred.
• Strong SAP/ERP experience is preferred.
• Experience in the GCC region is an advantage.
