About BAE Systems Saudi Arabia and the Role
BAE Systems Saudi Arabia operates as the UK Government’s nominated Prime Contractor, providing essential equipment, support, and training to Saudi Arabia, including maintenance for Royal Saudi Air Force (RSAF) aircraft. The company is committed to supporting the Saudi Arabian National Agenda, focusing on Saudisation and the development of Saudi National capabilities. We are seeking a Parachute Fabrication Technician Supervisor to join our team in Taif. This full-time role requires over 10 years of experience and offers a competitive salary.
Role Overview and Context
The Parachute Fabrication Technician Supervisor deputises for a senior company employee within the Typhoon Maintenance Organisation. This position holds direct responsibility for various aspects of the Parachute Fabrications Shop, ensuring continuous improvement and strict compliance with operational standards. The role includes company line management responsibilities, providing functional direction, exercising duty of care, and overseeing welfare, health & safety. A key objective is to ensure the effective delivery of all activities outlined in the shop component repair plan, directly supporting the Salam Project's success against contracted Operational Readiness (OR) and Key Performance Measurements (KPM).
Key Responsibilities
- Uphold a safety-first approach, implementing measures to protect personnel, products, and operations, while promoting Safety, Health & Environment (SHE) and Product Safety & Environment (PS&E).
- Ensure strict compliance with BAE Systems Operational Framework, Life Cycle Management (LCM) practices, Maintenance & Continuing Airworthiness (M&CA) Mandates, Maintenance Organisation Exposition (MOE), and RSAF Logistics Management Regulations (LMR) to meet contractual obligations.
- Enhance customer satisfaction by supporting maintenance, airworthiness, safety, and continual improvement, identifying new processes and procedures to grow the maintenance organisation.
- Drive a culture of continuous improvement (CI) throughout the maintenance organisation, encouraging innovative ideas and adapting best industry practices to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
Specific Accountabilities
- Accountable to their Primary Line Manager, with direct access to a Secondary Line Manager for independent issue resolution within the Parachute Fabrications shop maintenance environment.
- Undertake review of maintenance and challenge current practices, identifying potential capacity for improvements within the organisation.
- Recognise any malpractice that could affect the airworthiness or safety of assigned components or personnel within their area of responsibility and raise the issue/concern to the Senior Maintenance Manager.
- Ensure that the necessary facilities and resources are available, in accordance with company policies, to enable their organisations to perform their duties and any contractual obligations.
- Monitor standards of personnel within their organisation to identify any negative trends, non-conformities, or motivational deficiencies.
- Accountable and responsible for all person’s development reports within their direct and indirect line management, within their Area of Responsibility.
- Provide a working environment of trust, where all employees are professionals with a clear understanding of acceptable and unacceptable behaviour, following the company’s “Code of Conduct”.
- Provide training, consolidation, and counterpart development activities to RSAF personnel and BAE Systems personnel.
- Ensure all tasks are completed within designated timeframes to support Forward Maintenance and SMU activities.
- Maintain operational readiness of shop equipment in line with the shop component repair plan and schedule necessary calibrations.
- Ensure the correct tooling and approved data are available.
- Raise appropriate media for deficiencies in approved data (*, TPRFs, TQs, etc.).
- Report and monitor any damage or deficiencies to equipment and infrastructure using the correct media (*, IDR, MDR, CAR, SORT, 1400-61, etc.).
- Ensure that all personnel undertaking maintenance in their Area of Responsibility are authorised.
- Maintain anti-FOD surveillance and report potential hazards, enhanced by regular oversight checks of the shop and components.
- Ensure all maintenance tasks are carried out and meet the highest quality standards, including recording of maintenance carried out on airworthiness tool consumables and POL.
- Conduct oversight checks to ensure high standards of shop husbandry.
- Ensure any forecasted planning, highlight any deficiencies or delivery/FDD issues with consumables & PPE are escalated to the primary line manager or secondary manager at the earliest opportunity.
- Hold 2nd Signature and able to disperse the required responsibilities.
- Maintain competency currency for Martin Baker Parachute Fabrications pack authorisations.
Required Qualifications and Experience
- A recognised qualification to NVQ3/ONC/OND/BTEC level in a relevant technical discipline, a technical apprenticeship, or an equivalent technical qualification acceptable to M&CA.
- Extensive proven post-qualification practical maintenance experience (over 10 years) within an operational flying aircraft environment, supported by formal recorded workplace training, OR substantial proven experience on the same aircraft type.
- Demonstrated leadership skills and a proven ability to supervise engineering personnel at all levels.
- Ability to obtain and maintain Saudi Council of Engineers (SCE) membership at the appropriate level prior to commencing employment in KSA.
Desirable Skills and Knowledge
- Thorough understanding of company processes and procedures.
- Broad knowledge of the aerospace and defence industry.
- Proven supervisory experience within the defined area.
- An understanding of RAF and/or RSAF engineering operating procedures.
- A track record of meeting strict deadlines without compromising standards and quality.
- Previous experience in delivering workplace training.
- An understanding of ESS or similar electronic based reporting systems.
- Martin Baker Qualification.
