About the Role

Eram Talent is seeking an experienced Coral Husbandry Technician Supervisor to support the KAUST Coral Restoration Initiative (KCRI). This role is responsible for overseeing coral husbandry operations, co-culture systems, and fish husbandry activities to maximize coral production for reef restoration efforts. The position is full-time and requires 2-5 years of experience. Salary is not disclosed.

Role Overview and Responsibilities

Reporting to the Coral Husbandry Specialist, the Coral Husbandry Technician Supervisor will manage daily nursery operations and ensure the highest standards of coral care and aquatic husbandry. The successful candidate will supervise technical staff and contribute to the implementation of advanced coral restoration techniques. Key responsibilities include:

  • Supervising daily coral husbandry, co-culture, and fish husbandry operations to ensure optimal coral growth and production.
  • Implementing advanced coral restoration techniques, including coral sexual and asexual reproduction methodologies.
  • Managing coral nursery operations while maintaining high standards of cleanliness, animal welfare, and operational efficiency.
  • Monitoring coral health, diagnosing diseases, and implementing corrective actions.
  • Supervising and supporting husbandry technicians to ensure compliance with established procedures and quality standards.
  • Developing, maintaining, and updating Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), operational records, and production documentation.
  • Coordinating daily activities with the Coral Husbandry team, management, and project stakeholders.
  • Supporting nursery operational readiness, commissioning, and ongoing coral production programs.
  • Monitoring and maintaining aquatic life support systems, water quality, and environmental conditions.
  • Participating in diving operations for coral monitoring, maintenance, and restoration activities as required.
  • Attending project meetings and providing operational updates and technical input.
  • Ensuring compliance with Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) policies and reporting incidents.
  • Contributing to continuous improvement initiatives for coral production and nursery operations.

Qualifications and Experience

The ideal candidate possesses extensive experience in coral husbandry, coral sexual and asexual reproduction, aquaculture, and marine conservation. Specific qualifications include:

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Marine Biology, Marine Science, Aquaculture, Environmental Science, or a related discipline.
  • A minimum of 3 years of hands-on experience in coral husbandry, with a strong emphasis on coral sexual reproduction.
  • Proven experience in coral propagation, co-culture husbandry, fish husbandry, and aquaculture operations.
  • A strong understanding of aquatic life support systems, coral health management, and marine husbandry practices.
  • Experience supervising technical teams in marine, aquarium, aquaculture, or coral restoration environments.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Microsoft Teams, SharePoint, and digital documentation systems.
  • Previous experience working in remote or project-based environments is highly desirable.
  • Middle East experience and Arabic language skills are advantageous but not mandatory.

Work Environment and Logistics

This is a full-time position. The role requires a willingness to relocate to a remote project location and participate in diving activities as needed. The work supports one of the world's largest coral reef conservation and restoration programs.
