About Salla and the Senior Data Scientist Role

Salla is seeking a Senior Data Scientist to lead the metrics and analytics layer for its expanding e-commerce platform. This full-time position is based in Medina, Al Madinah Province, and requires 5-10 years of relevant experience.

Role Overview and Impact

The Senior Data Scientist will play a critical role in empowering merchants to understand and expand their businesses through data. This involves ensuring all reports, metrics, and models are accurate, unified, and scalable. The role requires close collaboration with the Platform Reports Product Manager, Platform Data Quality Engineers, and other Product Managers across various product areas to unify data models and establish a cohesive analytical foundation. The primary objective is to ensure the success of merchant reports and analytics, providing every merchant with a reliable and well-documented view of their growth.

Key Responsibilities

• Define the vision, standards, and roadmap for metrics, models, and reporting delivered through the Data Platform layer.
• Collaborate with Product Managers to consolidate fragmented metric definitions into a single, governed semantic layer across product areas.
• Design, validate, and continuously improve the reports and analytics that merchants utilize to study and grow their businesses.
• Establish and maintain documentation standards, ensuring every API, dataset, metric, and column is correctly named, clearly defined, and formally documented, with consistent definitions from the data warehouse to merchant-facing reports.
• Build analytical foundations, including cohorts, funnels, growth metrics, and benchmarks, to enable accurate growth analysis for merchants and internal teams.
• Define validation rules, reconciliation checks, and metric governance to ensure data quality and consistency across all appearances.
• Act as the analytical authority for the platform layer, advising engineering, product, and other analytics teams on correct implementation.

Qualifications and Experience

• A minimum of 5 to 10 years of experience in data science, with a focus on leading metrics, analytics, and reporting functions.
• Proven track record in defining analytics strategy, unifying data models, and driving merchant analytics success.
• Experience in establishing comprehensive data documentation standards and ensuring data quality and consistency.
• Ability to build and implement analytical foundations for growth analysis.
• Strong collaboration skills, capable of partnering with engineering, product, and other analytics teams.

Preferred Skills and Background

• Experience within e-commerce or SaaS platforms, particularly with merchant or seller analytics.
• Familiarity with metric stores or semantic layers at scale (*, Cube, dbt Semantic Layer, Metriql).
• Experience in defining API contracts and data documentation practices (*, data catalogs, OpenAPI specifications, column-level lineage).
• Statistical modeling or forecasting experience applied to growth analytics.
