About the Role

Bureau Veritas is seeking a Fire Assay Laboratory Technician for a full-time position in Makkah, Saudi Arabia. This role is based in the Minerals Laboratory in Jeddah, reporting to the Production Manager. The position requires 2-5 years of experience in a relevant field.

Core Responsibilities

The Fire Assay Laboratory Technician is responsible for executing precise laboratory testing procedures related to fire assay. Key duties include accurately weighing samples and metal materials, mixing samples with litharge, and preparing them for furnace operations. The role involves operating furnaces, pouring molten materials, and safely handling materials. Maintaining a clean, safe, and organized laboratory environment is essential.

  • Performing the cupellation process to separate precious metals.
  • Cleaning, preparing, and weighing lead buttons.
  • Preparing flux mixtures including litharge, borax, soda ash, and silica.
  • Operating and controlling muffle furnace temperatures.
  • Collecting and polishing precious-metal beads.
  • Weighing gold/silver beads using microbalances.
  • Calculating precious-metal concentrations based on bead and sample weights.
  • Running blanks, duplicates, and standards for quality control.
  • Documenting all process steps from sample receipt to final reporting.

Technical Knowledge and Skills

Candidates must demonstrate proficiency in laboratory testing procedures and possess familiarity with ISO/IEC 17025 requirements. Knowledge of national and international testing standards, laboratory tools, and equipment is required. A strong understanding of safety protocols within a laboratory setting is also necessary.

Qualifications and Experience

The minimum required qualifications include a Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in Chemistry, Science, or Geochemistry. A minimum of 3 years of experience in a testing laboratory or an equivalent role is required. The ideal candidate will have 2-5 years of relevant experience.

  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in Chemistry / Science / Geochem.
  • Experience: Minimum 3 years in a testing laboratory or equivalent.
  • Total Experience: 2-5 years.

Health, Safety, Security, and Environment (QHSSE)

Adherence to Bureau Veritas's QHSSE policies and procedures is mandatory. This includes implementing safety programs, complying with legal requirements, and maintaining a hazard-free work area. Employees are expected to report any deviations, faults, hazards, or incidents immediately and cooperate in investigations. Personal health and safety, as well as the safety of others, must be prioritized.

  • Implement BV safety programs within the team.

Work Location and Type

This is a full-time position located in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, within the South Jeddah Minerals Laboratory. The role is situated in the Makkah region.
