About the Opportunity

Parsons Corporation is seeking a Rolling Stock Engineer to join its team in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. This full-time role is crucial for ensuring the technical integrity of rolling stock within a significant rail project, providing expert guidance on design, development, and safety.

Role Context and Project Scope

The project encompasses various rail sections, including at-grade, elevated, and underground tunnels, featuring passenger rolling stock operating under automatic control. Reporting to the Lead Rolling Stock Engineer, this position involves performing design reviews, resolving construction and design issues, ensuring contractual compliance, and facilitating seamless integration with other critical systems such as signaling, platform screen doors, communications, and civil infrastructure. The successful candidate will be an expert in the delivery and acceptance of rolling stock assets.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide expert technical advice and support to the wider project team regarding rolling stock, assisting the Lead Rolling Stock Engineer.
  • Define and develop interface specifications to support supplier design processes.
  • Liaise with the project controls team to establish schedules and monitor design progress.
  • Establish and maintain adherence to project deliverables concerning safety, quality, cost, and schedule.
  • Analyze rolling stock related RAMS (Reliability, Availability, Maintainability, Safety) performance against client design specifications.
  • Analyze rolling stock related operation and maintenance aspects.
  • Review and approve the Design Build contractor’s rolling stock system and sub-system designs to ensure compliance with client requirements.
  • Review and monitor rolling stock design specifications and standards for all subsystems, including HVAC, door control, propulsion and control, auxiliary power, wiring, automatic train control (ATS), carbody, brakes, couplers, gangway, and bogies.
  • Oversee the assessment of differing train configurations, passenger capacity, interface problems, and performance quantifications.
  • Coordinate and monitor rolling stock related interfaces and integration with other disciplines such as platform screen doors, signaling, telecoms, and power supply.
  • Conduct technical investigations or fault analyses.
  • Conduct site visits and inspections to verify and monitor rolling stock works quality and progress.
  • Ensure all reporting requirements are met and maintain accurate records concerning rolling stock related data.

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • Minimum 12 years of mechanical engineering work experience.
  • Demonstrable experience working on large, complex, and multidisciplinary projects.
  • Current or recent broad knowledge of the rail industry.
  • Significant technical experience relevant to the design delivery of the mechanical aspects of rolling stock.
  • Proven experience in the design of rolling stock.
  • Chartered Engineer status.

Technical Expertise

  • Strong understanding of railway approvals, practices, and standards including EN 50126, EN 50129, IEC 61133, IEC1287, NFPA 130, UIC- 615, UIC-515, EN12663, EN15827.
  • Experience with railway interiors and paneling.
  • Working experience with Bombardier’s/Siemens rolling stock.
  • Knowledge of rail communication concepts and principles.
  • Knowledge of overhead traction power reticulation systems.
