About the Smart City Solution Architect Role

Devoteam is seeking a visionary and technically proficient Smart City Solution Architect to join our team in Riyadh. This full-time position focuses on designing and guiding the implementation of integrated smart city solutions. The role requires a candidate with 5-10 years of experience, capable of bridging deep technical expertise with strategic urban planning to deliver impactful solutions.

Role Context and Responsibilities

This position involves leading the architectural design of comprehensive smart city solutions across various domains including mobility, energy, environment, governance, and digital services. The Smart City Solution Architect will translate urban challenges and business requirements into scalable, secure, and interoperable technical architectures. Collaboration with strategy consultants, technical teams, city authorities, and solution providers is essential to ensure end-to-end alignment.

• Design high-level and detailed solution architectures encompassing applications, data, integration, and infrastructure components.
• Develop solution blueprints, reference architectures, and integration patterns aligned with international smart city standards (*, ISO 37106, ITU-T *** series).
• Evaluate and select appropriate technologies, platforms, and frameworks for diverse smart city use cases.
• Support procurement processes, RFP responses, and vendor assessments by defining technical requirements.
• Ensure adherence to cybersecurity, data privacy, and sustainability best practices.
• Provide technical leadership throughout the project lifecycle, from concept to deployment and operation.

Qualifications and Experience

Candidates should possess a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, ICT, or a related field. The role requires a minimum of 8 years in ICT architecture or smart solutions design, with at least 3 years specifically focused on smart city programs. Proven experience in designing complex, multi-domain smart city systems and digital platforms is necessary.

• Experience with cloud-native, edge, IoT, and data integration technologies.
• Proficiency in developing solution architecture, reference models, and architectural governance documents.
• Familiarity with Enterprise Architecture frameworks (*, TOGAF) and relevant smart city technology stacks.
• Experience in urban innovation projects, digital twin platforms, or open urban data standards is advantageous.
• Knowledge of service-oriented architecture, microservices, and interoperability protocols (*, FIWARE, NGSI-LD, OASC).

Required Skills and Attributes

Strong interpersonal and communication skills are essential for explaining technical concepts to non-technical audiences and leading architectural discussions with both business and technical stakeholders. Bilingual proficiency in Arabic and English is highly desirable.

• Certifications in TOGAF, AWS/GCP/Azure Architecture, or Smart Cities-related programs are a plus.
