About the Role

Al-Futtaim is seeking a HSSE Manager for its Automotive – BYD operations in Saudi Arabia. This full-time position is critical for leading the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of Health, Safety, Security, and Environment (HSSE) programs across all BYD showrooms, workshops, parts warehouses, and corporate sites in Riyadh, Jeddah, Dammam, and the wider KSA dealer network. The role reports to the Head of Government Relations & HSSE and is directly accountable for protecting the workforce, customers, assets, and brand reputation.

Strategic HSSE Leadership

The HSSE Manager will drive the strategic direction and operational execution of HSSE initiatives across Al-Futtaim Automotive – BYD in KSA. This involves ensuring full compliance with KSA regulatory frameworks, including Saudi Civil Defense, MHRSD, HCIS, SASO, and Environmental Authorities, while aligning practices with Al-Futtaim Group HSSE governance standards. The role is instrumental in enabling business growth by ensuring uninterrupted operations, securing statutory certifications, and embedding a robust safety-first culture.

Regulatory Compliance and Risk Management

• Drive hazard identification and gap reporting through scheduled inspections, risk assessments, and field walkthroughs across all assigned BYD KSA sites.
• Reduce preventable incidents via structured corrective and preventive action plans, tracking findings to closure on the Site Compliance & Hazard Tracker.
• Conduct full-cycle incident investigations for medium and high-severity events within 24 hours, documenting root-cause analysis in the HSSE IMS.
• Ensure full alignment with KSA HSSE legislation, including Saudi Civil Defense, MHRSD, HCIS, SASO, and National Centre for Environmental Compliance requirements.
• Secure and renew all statutory permits, including Civil Defense Safety Certificates, Environmental Clearance, and Municipal HSSE clearances.
• Develop and maintain site-specific emergency response plans covering various scenarios, and supervise a minimum of two emergency evacuation drills per site annually.
• Ensure sites comply with Civil Defense requirements for trained First Aiders and Fire Wardens, maintaining operational readiness of life-safety systems.

Safety Culture and Management Systems

• Lead structured monthly Safety Committee meetings at every assigned site, ensuring documented minutes and agreed actions.
• Embed visible safety standards across all facilities, including signage, PPE compliance, LOTO procedures, and emergency communication boards.
• Champion continuous workforce awareness through toolbox talks, safety alerts, behavioral observation programs, and structured campaigns.
• Develop and maintain Safe Work Procedures (SWPs) for all hazardous tasks, machinery, and operations, reviewed annually and visibly displayed.
• Lead BYD KSA operations through ISO 45001 (Occupational Health & Safety), ISO 14001 (Environmental Management), and other relevant international certifications.
• Maintain documented HSSE management systems aligned with Al-Futtaim Group standards, OEM (BYD) HSSE requirements, and international benchmarks.

Team Leadership and Stakeholder Engagement

• Lead, develop, and supervise HSSE Officers and the field HSSE team across the BYD KSA dealer network.
• Set clear performance objectives, conduct structured monthly performance reviews, and manage gaps through formal improvement frameworks.
• Deliver regular HSSE performance dashboards, audit summaries, and incident trend analysis to senior leadership and HRBP.
• Partner with Aftersales, Sales, Logistics, Facilities, HR, and Government Relations leadership to integrate HSSE priorities into operational decision-making.
• Drive Saudization of the HSSE function in line with MHRSD requirements and Al-Futtaim workforce planning targets.

Qualifications and Experience

• A minimum of 5 to 10 years of experience in Health, Safety, Security, and Environment management, preferably within the automotive or a related industry.
• Demonstrated expertise in KSA regulatory frameworks (Saudi Civil Defense, MHRSD, HCIS, SASO, Environmental Authorities).
• Proven ability to lead ISO 45001 and ISO 14001 certification processes and maintain management systems.
• Strong background in risk assessment, incident investigation, and emergency preparedness and response.
• Experience in leading and developing HSSE teams and fostering a strong safety culture.
