About WSP and the Role

WSP in the Middle East is seeking an experienced Resident Engineer to lead and oversee the supervision of a major buildings project in Jeddah, within the Makkah region. This full-time role involves acting as the client's on-site representative, ensuring project delivery safely, on time, and to the highest quality standards. The Resident Engineer will provide strong technical leadership, manage contractors, and ensure full compliance with design specifications and Saudi building codes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead day-to-day site supervision activities for all architectural, structural, and MEP works.
  • Ensure construction is executed in accordance with approved drawings, specifications, and project standards.
  • Manage and guide the supervision team, including discipline engineers, inspectors, Quantity Surveyors (QS), and Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) personnel.
  • Review and approve shop drawings, material submittals, method statements, and Requests for Information (RFIs).
  • Monitor contractor progress, identify potential delays, and support the implementation of mitigation strategies.

Project Oversight and Compliance

  • Conduct regular site inspections, quality audits, and safety walks.
  • Chair weekly progress meetings and prepare detailed reports for the client.
  • Coordinate with design teams to resolve technical issues and facilitate design changes.
  • Ensure compliance with the Saudi Building Code, local authority requirements, and project Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC) procedures.
  • Oversee testing, commissioning, and handover activities for the project.

Candidate Profile and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Architecture, or a related discipline. A Master’s degree is preferred.
  • A minimum of 20 years of overall experience, with at least 5 years in a Resident Engineer or Senior Supervision role.
  • Strong background in buildings projects, including residential, commercial, mixed-use, or institutional developments.
  • Proven experience working with engineering consultancies in the GCC, with Saudi experience being preferred.

Essential Skills and Knowledge

  • Excellent knowledge of construction supervision, QA/QC processes, and contract administration.
  • Strong communication, leadership, and stakeholder-management skills.
  • Familiarity with local authorities and their requirements.
  • Membership in a professional engineering body is considered an advantage.

Work Location and Type

This is a full-time position based in Jeddah, Makkah, focusing on a significant buildings project. The role requires a dedicated professional to ensure project success and adherence to established standards.
