The Role of Biologics & Immunology Medical Lead - BBU
AstraZeneca is establishing a dedicated AZ BioPharma Business Unit (AZ BBU) in Saudi Arabia to support patients with chronic non-communicable diseases in therapy areas such as Severe Asthma, CSWNP, and Lupus. This full-time role, the Biologics & Immunology Medical Lead, will join the Medical Affairs team in Saudi Arabia. The position reports to the KSA BBU Medical Director and is a member of the KSA BBU Medical Affairs Leadership team. The Medical Lead will provide therapeutic area leadership for medical affairs, adapting and deploying AZ Global/International Medical Affairs strategies for Severe Asthma, CSwNP, COPD, and Lupus. This role also involves leading a team of medical affairs professionals, including MSLs and Medical Advisors, and overseeing the execution of medical activities.

- Ensuring medical value and access.
- Contributing to brand strategy through support for cross-functional and regional teams.
- Facilitating local clinical research initiatives.
Primary Duties
- Providing strategic guidance for building the TA medical organization and aligning its vision with AZ KSA Vision 2030, in collaboration with the Medical Director.
- Leading and developing a high-performing KSA BBU medical team, fostering a culture of mentoring and coaching, and integrating medical team efforts with BBU cross-functional brand teams.
- Building AZ’s external TA leadership and advocacy, establishing partnerships with medical institutions, clinics, research centers, and thought leader networks across KSA.
- Ensuring all Biologics and Immunology TA medical operational and compliance processes are in place and integrated with KSA AZ policies and procedures.
- Ensuring medical team activities comply with local laws, regulations, and all applicable AZ global and KSA policies, SOPs, and guidance.
- Driving a patient-centric approach by collaborating with Patient Association Groups (PAGs), raising disease area awareness, and partnering with HCPs and PAGs on patient identification initiatives.
- Providing medical expertise for presentation review, abstracts, publications, advisory boards, and continuous medical education activities.
- Overseeing and developing evidence generation strategies and concepts based on medical, payer, and value evidence needs, including registries, cohorts, or clinical trials.
- Providing cross-functional support for the development and execution of brand plans.
Candidate Requirements
- Demonstrated leadership in identifying and partnering with national, regional, and local Key External Experts (KEEs), as well as advocacy groups and PAGs.
- Ensuring cross-functional teams are current on therapeutic area and product knowledge, including competitor information.
- Conducting regular meetings with Key External Experts and influence groups to build partnerships, share data, solicit advice (*, advisory boards), and provide support such as publications and slide sets.
- Establishing systems for timely responses to unsolicited requests for information about unapproved AZ BBU products or unapproved uses of approved products, ensuring information is objective, balanced, substantiated, scientific, and free of promotional messages.
- Fulfilling medical information requests and overseeing relevant processes.
- Appropriately sharing data with HCPs, discussing all aspects in a scientific, objective, and balanced manner.
- Facilitating continuous medical education events for HCPs.
