About the Role
Sheraton Hotels & Resorts is seeking a Director of Finance & Accounting to lead financial operations in Medina. This full-time position requires a strategic financial business leader who will champion and implement property-wide strategies to meet and exceed guest expectations while maximizing return on investment. The role involves creating and executing a business plan aligned with property and brand strategies, focusing on financial and accounting activities to achieve desirable financial results.
Key Responsibilities
- Champion, develop, and implement property-wide strategies that deliver products and services to meet or exceed the needs and expectations of the brand’s target customer and property employees.
- Provide financial expertise to enable the successful implementation of the brand service strategy and brand initiatives while maximizing the return on investment.
- Create and execute a business plan aligned with the property and brand’s business strategy, focusing on financial and accounting activities and delivering desirable financial results.
- Develop methods to improve profit, including estimating costs and benefits, and exploring new business opportunities.
- Analyze information, forecast sales against expenses, and create annual budget plans.
- Compile and analyze actual sales against projected sales, and analyze differences between actual and forecasted wages for efficient budget planning.
- Identify underlying principles, reasons, or facts by breaking down information or data into separate parts.
- Develop, execute, and implement new business plans creatively and practically.
- Create the annual operating budget for the property and provide analytical support during budget reviews to identify cost-saving and productivity opportunities.
- Implement appropriate controls to manage business risks and ensure a strong accounting and operational control environment to safeguard assets, improve operations, and profitability.
- Analyze financial data and market trends, and lead the development and implementation of a comprehensive annual business plan aligned with company and brand strategic direction.
- Provide ongoing analytical support by monitoring operating department’s actual and projected sales, and produce accurate forecasts to enable operations to react to business changes.
- Oversee internal, external, and regulatory audit processes.
- Ensure profits and losses are documented accurately, and monitor all applicable taxes, ensuring they are current, collected, and/or accrued.
- Submit reports in a timely manner, ensuring delivery deadlines are met.
- Develop and support the achievement of performance goals, budget goals, and team goals.
- Improve profit growth in operating departments and review audit issues for accuracy.
- Generate and provide accurate and timely results in the form of reports and presentations.
- Reconcile balance sheets to ensure account balances are supported by appropriate documentation in accordance with SOPs.
- Ensure the P&L is accurate, with costs properly matched to revenue and recorded in the correct accounts.
- Ensure compliance with management contracts, reporting requirements, and standard and local operating procedures (SOPs and LSOPs).
- Ensure team members are cross-trained to support successful daily operations, and that property policies are administered fairly and consistently.
- Ensure new hires participate in the department’s orientation program and receive appropriate training to successfully perform their job.
- Create development plans for team members based on their individual strengths, development needs, career aspirations, and abilities.
- Conduct performance review processes for employees and participate in hiring activities as appropriate.
Qualifications and Requirements
Candidates should possess a 4-year bachelor's degree in Finance and Accounting or a related major, along with 2 years of experience in finance and accounting or a related professional area. Alternatively, a Master's degree in Finance and Accounting or a related major is acceptable with no work experience required.
Leadership and Stakeholder Engagement
This role requires strong leadership and communication skills to influence others, advocate for sound financial decisions, and lead by example. The Director will communicate strategic goals clearly to subordinates, leverage functional leadership to influence the executive team and property strategies, and provide excellent leadership by assigning clear accountability with appropriate authority. The position involves attending meetings with owners, understanding their priorities, and advising the General Manager and executive committee on operating and financial issues. Effective communication of financial concepts and management of property working capital and cash flow in accordance with brand SOPs and owner requirements are essential. Facilitating critique meetings to review information with the management team is also a key aspect of the role.
Work Environment
This is a full-time position based in Medina, Al-Madinah Al-Munawarah. The role operates within the framework of Sheraton Hotels & Resorts.
