About the Senior Planning & Project Controls Engineer Role

Sama Construction & Contracting is seeking a Senior Planning & Project Controls Engineer for a full-time position in Al Jubail, Eastern Province. This role requires a candidate with a strong background in industrial maintenance, shutdowns, and turnarounds, with a preference for experience within the GCC, particularly Saudi Arabia's Eastern Province.

Key Responsibilities

The Senior Planning & Project Controls Engineer will be responsible for a range of critical project control functions. This includes the preparation of detailed maintenance, inspection, and shutdown work packages. The role involves developing and maintaining comprehensive project schedules, diligently monitoring project progress, and providing regular updates on planning status. Coordination with various internal departments such as engineering, inspection, procurement, and warehouse, as well as site teams, is essential. The engineer will also support cost control initiatives and contribute to project reporting by preparing progress reports, key performance indicators (KPIs), and planning updates. Furthermore, the position requires coordination of Purchase Requisitions (PRs), Purchase Orders (POs), material availability, and procurement activities, alongside supporting invoice verification and project documentation. Active participation in shutdown planning and client coordination meetings is expected, ensuring all planning activities align with client requirements and company procedures.

Required Qualifications and Experience

Candidates must possess a Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering. A minimum of 8 to 12 years of experience in Industrial Maintenance, Shutdowns, and Turnarounds is mandatory. Previous working experience within the GCC is a prerequisite, with a strong preference for candidates experienced in Saudi Arabia's Eastern Province. The role demands significant experience in Maintenance Planning and Shutdown Planning, coupled with a good understanding of Mechanical Inspection activities. Experience in preparing Maintenance and Shutdown Work Packages is essential. Proficiency in Project Scheduling and Progress Monitoring is required, along with a good knowledge of Cost Control principles.

Technical and System Skills

Essential technical skills include expertise in Maintenance Planning, Shutdown & Turnaround Planning, and Work Package Preparation. Strong capabilities in Project Scheduling, Cost Control, and Progress Monitoring are necessary. The role also requires experience in coordinating PRs and POs. Familiarity with Oracle ERP and/or SAP systems is required. A good working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint, is also expected.

Successful candidates will demonstrate strong planning and organizational skills, with the ability to perform effectively under pressure and meet project deadlines. Excellent coordination and communication skills in English are vital. The role requires strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, along with a professional attitude and the capacity to represent the company effectively during client meetings.
