The Role of Power Management & Automation Commissioning Engineer

ETAP Software is seeking a Power Management & Automation Commissioning Engineer to join its team in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia. This full-time role involves leading the commissioning, testing, and validation of various power management and automation systems, contributing to the energy transition towards a cleaner and more resilient world.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the commissioning and configuration of Power Management Systems (PMS), Energy Management Systems (EMS), Power Plant Controllers (PPC), and Microgrid Controllers (MGC).
• Implement and tune PPC controllers.
• Configure and commission Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) control, including SOC management, charge/discharge scheduling, and hybrid dispatch optimization.
• Design, implement, and commission Power Automation systems for Oil & Gas, Industrial, and Utility applications.
• Program and configure PLC/RTU systems for power management applications.
• Prepare, coordinate, and execute Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) with equipment manufacturers.
• Lead Site Acceptance Tests (SAT) as per approved client formats and procedures.

Essential Requirements

• Ability to configure and test multiple communication protocols, including Modbus RTU/TCP, IEC 61850 (MMS, GOOSE), DNP3, and IEC 60870-5-101/103/104.
• Experience implementing cybersecurity measures in accordance with IEC 62351 and industry best practices.
• Hands-on experience with multiple software platforms such as Codesys and IEC 61131 PLC Tools.

Desired Skills and Solution Area Expertise

Candidates should possess expertise in the following solution areas:

• Load Shedding: UFLS, UVLS, priority-based shedding, fast load shedding, and restoration sequences.
• Generator Control: Synchronization, load sharing, peak shaving, black start, and island mode operation.
• Power Balancing: Economic dispatch, spinning reserve, import/export control, and AGC interface.
• PPC/Renewable: Active/reactive power control, frequency response, FRT, and BESS dispatch.
• Grid Code Compliance: Frequency response, voltage control, FRT, power quality, and compliance testing.
• Protection Coordination: Relay coordination with PMS, breaker failure, and bus protection schemes.
