Design & Development Engineer ISM

About the Role

Zahid Tractor is seeking a Design & Development Engineer-ISM to join their team in Jeddah. This full-time role focuses on managing the complete design lifecycle, from initial concept development through to prototype validation and ongoing design revisions. The position also involves maintaining critical design infrastructure and contributing to the training and development of the design team.

Core Responsibilities

• Lead new designs from concept to validating prototypes, including subsequent design revisions, validation, and verification.
• Maintain all design resources, such as CAD servers, software licenses, daily data backups, technical information, and relevant standards.
• Optimize and automate design processes to enhance efficiency and output.
• Contribute to the training and development initiatives for the design team.
• Establish and review design procedures and algorithms.
• Track and forecast design trends for integration into ZI products and marketing plans.
• Stay updated with relevant international standards, scientific, and technical developments.

Product Design and Testing

• Design, create, and test new products to determine their user-friendliness and marketability prior to official launch.
• Design and create test jigs and simulators for product and prototype testing.
• Simulate the performance of new designs using simulation software, followed by real-life testing.
• Ensure all design work is completed to the highest standard.
• Generate ideas for new products, research their feasibility, and accurately record and analyze data.
• Evaluate the feasibility of design concepts to meet functional and customer needs.
• Develop timelines and cost estimates for product development tasks and appraise the Operations Manager of performance against plan.
• Evaluate, document, and implement potential design and process changes to improve product performance, manufacturability, safety, and cost-effectiveness.

Production Support and Documentation

• Oversee designers and extend support to the development of production methods, as well as troubleshoot production issues.
• Initiate design changes for cost-effectiveness and product consistency.
• Review technical submittals such as customer drawings, specifications, and budgetary costs.
• Review revised and new Bills of Quantities (BOQ’s) for correctness before releasing them for procurement and production planning.

Required Experience

Candidates for this position should possess 3-4 years of relevant experience in design and development engineering.

Internal Collaboration and Reporting Structure

The Design & Development Engineer-ISM will interact internally with the Production Manager, Workshop Manager, Fabrication Supervisor, and Team leaders. This role will have direct reports, including CAD Draughtsmen and Trainee Design Engineers.
