About the Role

International Maritime Industries is seeking a Lead Commissioning Superintendent for Instrumentation. This full-time role is based in Ras Al Khair, Eastern, Saudi Arabia, with responsibilities extending to Ras Tannurah. The successful candidate will oversee the planning, coordination, execution, and handover of instrumentation and control systems for new-build offshore jack-up drilling rigs.

Role Overview

The Lead Commissioning Superintendent will be responsible for ensuring the safe and reliable operation of instrumentation and control systems. This includes process instrumentation, control valves, Fire & Gas systems, ESD/SIS systems, drilling instrumentation, HVAC/BMS instrumentation, and various monitoring systems. The objective is to achieve regulatory and class compliance, operational readiness, and successful project delivery and client acceptance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the development and implementation of instrumentation commissioning plans, procedures, inspection and test plans (ITPs), method statements, schedules, and resource requirements.
  • Direct the commissioning, testing, calibration, verification, and startup of instrumentation systems, including pressure, temperature, flow, level, vibration monitoring, and associated field devices.
  • Lead the functional testing, integration, and performance verification of control valves, actuators, Fire & Gas systems, ESD/SIS loops, and critical safety instrumented functions.
  • Oversee loop checks, calibration activities, functional testing, energization, FATs, SATs, and system performance verification.
  • Manage commissioning interfaces among engineering, construction, operations, OEM vendors, client representatives, and classification societies.
  • Oversee the commissioning and integration of drilling instrumentation, HVAC/BMS controls, monitoring systems, and auxiliary instrumentation packages.
  • Direct commissioning activities in accordance with project specifications, API, IEC, classification society requirements, and quality standards.
  • Promote and enforce compliance with permit-to-work systems, SIMOPS requirements, risk assessments, toolbox talks, and project HSE procedures.
  • Oversee the preparation, review, and closeout of commissioning documentation, including check sheets, loop folders, test reports, red-line markups, vendor reports, ITRs, MC/RFCC/RFOC certificates, and handover dossiers.
  • Direct punch-list management, construction-to-commissioning transitions, readiness assessments, as-built documentation, O&M manual development, and final handover activities.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Instrumentation Engineering, Electrical & Instrumentation, or an equivalent technical discipline.
  • Experience: A minimum of 12-15 years of experience in instrumentation commissioning is required, with at least 8 years specifically in offshore rigs, ideally on jack-up rig newbuilds.

This is a full-time position within the International Maritime Industries team, focusing on critical projects in the maritime sector. The role involves working on new-build offshore jack-up drilling rigs, requiring adherence to stringent safety and quality standards.
