Lead Commissioning Supt; Instrumentation

About the Role

International Maritime Industries is seeking a Lead Commissioning Supt; Instrumentation to oversee the planning, coordination, execution, and handover of instrumentation and control systems for new-build offshore jack-up drilling rigs. This full-time role focuses on ensuring safe, reliable system operation, regulatory compliance, and successful project delivery.

Role Purpose

The primary objective of this position is to manage the entire lifecycle of instrumentation and control systems, from initial planning through to client acceptance. This includes critical systems such as process instrumentation, control valves, Fire & Gas, ESD/SIS, drilling instrumentation, HVAC/BMS, and various monitoring systems, ensuring operational readiness and adherence to all project and industry standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the development and implementation of commissioning plans, procedures, Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs), method statements, schedules, and resource requirements.
• Direct the commissioning, testing, calibration, verification, and startup of instrumentation systems, including pressure, temperature, flow, level, and vibration monitoring devices.
• Lead functional testing, integration, and performance verification of control valves, actuators, Fire & Gas systems, ESD/SIS loops, and critical safety instrumented functions.
• Oversee loop checks, calibration activities, functional testing, energization, FATs, SATs, and system performance verification.
• Manage commissioning interfaces with engineering, construction, operations, OEM vendors, client representatives, and classification societies.
• Oversee the commissioning and integration of drilling instrumentation, HVAC/BMS controls, monitoring systems, and auxiliary instrumentation packages.
• Direct commissioning activities in accordance with project specifications, API, IEC, classification society requirements, and quality standards.
• Promote and enforce compliance with permit-to-work systems, SIMOPS requirements, risk assessments, toolbox talks, and project HSE procedures.
• Oversee the preparation, review, and closeout of commissioning documentation, including check sheets, loop folders, test reports, and handover dossiers.
• Direct punch-list management, construction-to-commissioning transitions, readiness assessments, as-built documentation, and final handover activities.

Qualifications and Experience

• A minimum of 10 years of experience in commissioning instrumentation and control systems, preferably within the offshore drilling or maritime industries.
• Demonstrated ability to lead complex commissioning projects and manage multidisciplinary teams.
• Strong understanding of relevant industry standards (API, IEC) and classification society requirements.
