The AI Centre of Excellence

The AI Centre of Excellence (AI CoE) functions as PwC Middle East's central engine for AI strategy, product development, and scaling initiatives. It is responsible for governing standards, managing cost and risk controls, and operating AI Factory squads to design and deliver custom AI solutions and reusable frameworks, including LLM and RAG stacks and Azure integrations. The CoE also provides technical consultation on architecture, solution design, and best practices, while driving workforce transformation through training and upskilling to accelerate AI adoption across service lines.

Role Overview: AI Backend Engineer Senior Associate

PwC Middle East is seeking an AI Backend Engineer Senior Associate to join the team in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. This full-time role, suitable for candidates with 0-1 years of experience, involves working within a team of problem solvers to build and ship the backend services that power AI products, from initial strategy through to execution.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and implement RESTful APIs for authentication, data access, and system health checks.
  • Develop modular services to handle model inference, prompt orchestration, and pipeline management.
  • Orchestrate background and asynchronous tasks for long-running AI workloads.
  • Integrate with leading LLM platforms, such as Azure OpenAI, OpenAI, and Hugging Face, and optimize calls for performance and cost.
  • Containerize services using Docker and Docker Compose, and collaborate on CI/CD pipelines.
  • Manage and scale data stores in partnership with the team.
  • Define clear API contracts and data models in collaboration with frontend engineers.
  • Produce clear documentation, including OpenAPI/Swagger specifications, architecture diagrams, and in-code comments.
  • Participate in design discussions, architectural reviews, and peer code reviews to maintain high quality standards.
  • Continuously build skills and stay updated with emerging AI tools, frameworks, and best practices.
