Job Description

Role Summary

Bupa Arabia is seeking an Assistant Consultant - Internal Medicine & Hematology for a full-time position in Riyadh. This role involves providing comprehensive medical care to adult patients within a telemedicine setting, covering the full spectrum of general internal medicine alongside the subspecialty of hematology. The Assistant Consultant delivers evidence-based assessment, diagnosis, and management for a wide range of acute and chronic conditions.

Clinical Responsibilities and Patient Management

  • Conduct comprehensive telehealth consultations, including thorough history taking and review of systems, for adult patients with general medical and hematological complaints.
  • Assess, diagnose, and manage a broad range of acute and chronic internal medicine conditions across multiple organ systems, including undifferentiated and multimorbid presentations.
  • Assess, diagnose, and manage the full spectrum of benign and malignant blood disorders, such as anaemias, hemoglobinopathies, bleeding and coagulation disorders, and hematologic malignancies.
  • Order and interpret general and specialized investigations, including complete blood counts, peripheral blood films, coagulation profiles, and bone marrow examination reports.
  • Develop and implement personalized, evidence-based treatment plans, encompassing medication management, chronic disease control, anticoagulation therapy, transfusion planning, and referrals to relevant specialties.
  • Initiate, adjust, and monitor pharmacological and hematological therapies, overseeing ongoing care for chronic and acute conditions.
  • Practice population health management by identifying and addressing health issues at the community level, implementing preventive measures, and promoting health education.
  • Document findings and treatment plans meticulously in patient records.

Quality Assurance and Professional Development

  • Communicate effectively with patients and their families, providing clear explanations of diagnoses and treatment options.
  • Adhere to all relevant medical regulations, ethical guidelines, and quality assurance standards for telehealth practice.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of internal medicine and hematology clinical guidelines, as well as telehealth regulations and best practices.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives, research activities, and clinical audits to enhance patient care.
  • Continuously enhance professional knowledge and skills in internal medicine, hematology, and telehealth through conferences, workshops, and online courses.

Telehealth Platform Proficiency and Patient Safety

  • Maintain accurate and complete patient records in accordance with data protection and privacy regulations.
  • Maintain proficiency in utilizing the designated telehealth platform, including video conferencing, secure messaging, and EHR integration.
  • Actively participate in training programs and stay updated on platform enhancements.
  • Maintain compliance with all patient safety standards and report any patient safety risks or issues.
  • Practice safe medicine, with particular attention to medication, anticoagulation, transfusion, and chemotherapy-related risks.
  • Ensure satisfactory patient consultations through effective communication, empathy, clear explanation of diagnosis, and prompt addressing of concerns.

Interdisciplinary Collaboration

  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including internal medicine subspecialists, oncologists, transfusion medicine, laboratory, and primary care, to optimize patient outcomes.
  • Share insights and recommendations to support patient-centered care approaches.
  • Facilitate communication between team members regarding patient status and needs.
  • Mentor junior staff and provide training on clinical protocols.
