Automation Engineer

About the Role

ITT Flow Technologies, formerly SPX Flow, is seeking an Automation Engineer to join their team in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. This full-time role involves the execution of automation systems for both projects and bid proposals. The Automation Engineer will work as part of a team, collaborating with other disciplines to ensure successful project and bid delivery.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop automation solutions that meet proposal or project requirements.
• Ensure design and execution outputs are delivered according to schedule and quality standards.
• Provide technical support for automation design aspects throughout project and bid lifecycles.
• Undertake additional technical tasks such as site surveys, feasibility studies, and sales support.
• Provide aftermarket customer support, including 24/7 availability up to one week per month, which may involve travel.

Automation Design and Execution

• Generate automation solutions, defining and implementing characteristics through architecture diagrams, hardware/software selection, control philosophy, and software structure.
• Develop Functional Design Descriptions (FDS), Detailed Design Specifications (DDS), and PLC software code.
• Configure network and communications, HMI, and SCADA applications.
• Interface with SCADA systems, I/O servers, MIS/MES systems, databases, and ERP systems as applicable.
• Adhere to company procedures, tools, and design standards.
• Complete design calculations, undertake software simulation, Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), and Customer Acceptance Testing (CAT).
• Ensure tasks are completed on schedule, to required quality, and within budget.

Safety and Compliance

• Ensure automation solutions are safe, considering e-stop, isolation, and maintenance aspects.
• Participate in relevant reviews (*, Design Reviews, Risk Assessments) and complete resultant actions.
• Ensure compliance with local legislation and regulations applicable to engineering design.
• Act safely, particularly when working outside the office environment on customer and supplier sites.

Collaboration and Documentation

• Conduct technical discussions with customers and suppliers.
• Attend project and proposal meetings, communicating information to stakeholders in a timely manner.
• Support other disciplines during the design phase (*, Supply Chain, Process Design, Electrical Design).
• Assist the Installation & Commissioning team during site execution, including automation commissioning and snag resolution.
• Ensure all design information is captured, stored, and maintained in a structured and accessible manner.
• Prepare User Manuals, Operating & Maintenance Manuals (including spares lists), and assist in compiling Technical Files.

Qualifications and Experience

• 5-10 years of experience in automation engineering.
• Ability to lead a multi-disciplinary team as a Lead Engineer, establishing and maintaining schedules, managing resources, and ensuring design quality.
• Participation in continuous improvement initiatives, knowledge sharing, and acting as a subject matter expert.
