About Bechtel and the King Salman International Airport Project
Bechtel Corporation has a distinguished history spanning over 80 years in some of the world’s most complex airport projects, including both Greenfield and Brownfield developments. In the GCC region, Bechtel has played significant roles in major international airports such as King Khalid, King Fahad, Dubai, Hamad, and Muscat. Saudi Arabian Bechtel Company has been appointed to provide comprehensive project management consultancy (PMC) services for the development of the state-of-the-art King Salman International Airport (KSIA) in Riyadh, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
This ambitious project aims to achieve a capacity of up to 120 million travelers by 2030 and 185 million travelers by 2050, alongside processing up to million tons of cargo annually by 2050. Bechtel’s PMC scope encompasses three new terminals: Terminal 6, a hyper-efficient low-cost carrier terminal with a gross floor area of approximately 450,000m2 and a capacity of 20 million passengers per annum (mppa); the Iconic Terminal, a new concept terminal spanning approximately 1 million m2 with a capacity of 40 to 45 mppa; and a Private Aviation Terminal with hangars for VIP and business jet passengers.
Role Summary: Senior Construction Specialist
The Senior Construction Specialist is an integral part of a multidisciplinary team, reporting directly to the Construction Manager. This full-time position is based in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, and focuses on managing contractor works on site for the King Salman International Airport project. The specialist is responsible for implementing processes and procedures within their designated discipline and site area to ensure all works are completed safely, adhere to approved Contractor project ES&H, quality, and schedule requirements, and comply with project specifications and the Contractor's Inspection and Test Plans (ITP).
Key Responsibilities
- Provide construction recommendations and coordinate with the team to develop approved constructability ideas and plans.
- Initiate the Constructability Program process and schedule, identifying construction requirements to support estimating efforts during project development.
- Prepare and may lead Constructability awareness training, including the Constructability Review Matrix.
- Contribute to construction-related design decisions and facilitate the development and execution of approved constructability ideas and plans.
- Develop and disseminate information to site construction engineers regarding the three-week lookahead plan.
- Implement procedures and processes within the work area to ensure completion as per approved quality plans, ITPs, Risk Assessment and Method Statements (RAMS), project procedures, and the latest Issued For Construction (IFC) drawings.
- Liaise with contractors regarding the closeout of Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs) prior to work progression and ensure any program effects due to NCRs are documented.
- Manage onsite coordination between all stakeholders and ensure plans are in place to maintain effective coordination.
- Manage the collation of documentation required for work site handover.
- Coordinate all disciplines, including ES&H, Quality, and Survey, to ensure activities meet project requirements and do not negatively impact the schedule.
- Manage contractor scopes on site to ensure all works are in line with contractual arrangements.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor's degree or an international equivalent.
- A minimum of 5 to 10 years of relevant work experience in construction, aligning with Grade 25 (5-8 years) or Grade 26 (8-10 years) requirements.
Essential Skills and Knowledge
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal relationship skills.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure, managing changing priorities and deadlines.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively influence outcomes and escalate issues appropriately.
- Must be a self-starter and highly motivated to succeed.
- Proven skill in identifying, analyzing, and solving problems.
- Previous, related working experience in the Middle East is highly preferred.
