Job Description
Senior Project Finance Associate, Riyadh
Clifford Chance is seeking a Senior Project Finance Associate to join its full-time team in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. This role is suitable for a professional with 2-5 years of experience in finance transactions, contributing to a leading international law firm known for combining global standards with in-depth local expertise.
Practice Area and Team Focus
The team operates across the MENA region, advising on a comprehensive range of banking and project finance transactions. This includes limited recourse project finance, Islamic finance, secured and unsecured bilateral and syndicated loans, and leveraged and acquisition finance. Specialist advice is provided in the following legal areas:
- Bank Lending: Advising on banking transactions such as secured and unsecured bilateral and syndicated loans, leveraged and acquisition finance, rescheduling, restructuring, loan transfers, participations, acquisitions, and disposals.
- Projects: Representing arrangers, lenders, debt and equity financiers, borrowers, project sponsors, export-credit agencies, and international financial organizations.
- Islamic Finance: Developing and delivering Shari'a compliant financing solutions, with the firm having closed over US$25 billion in transactions in the past year.
Professional Development and Engagements
Associates work on significant deals for prominent clients, gaining exposure to a diverse range and international scope of transactions. The firm offers a sophisticated internal training program, including local monthly courses via The Academy and opportunities to attend programs across the Clifford Chance network. Recent deal highlights include advising:
- Lenders to Saudi Aramco on a USD10 Billion Term Loan Financing.
- The Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund on high-profile mandates in Saudi Arabia and internationally, including a USD10 Billion Term Loan Financing.
- Several Government ministries on privatisation mandates aligned with Saudi “Vision 2030”.
- The merger of SABB and Al-Alawwal, two leading banks in Saudi Arabia.
- The acquisition of ***** by Amazon.
- Crédit Agricole on the disposal of a ** stake in Banque Saudi Fransi to Kingdom Holding Company.
- Financiers on the US$10 billion revolving credit facility for Saudi Aramco, combining Islamic Murabaha and conventional facilities.
- General Electric on Saudi aspects of its US$17bn acquisition of Alstom’s global power transmission business.
Key Responsibilities
- Handling a variety of work, including general banking and finance, Islamic finance, and project finance transactions.
Candidate Profile and Requirements
The ideal candidate will possess a strong legal background and a commitment to professional excellence. Requirements include:
- Proven track record of acting on a variety of finance transactions.
- Previous experience working in a "Magic Circle" or top-tier international law firm.
- First-class legal ability coupled with a practical commercial approach.
- Excellent drafting, analytical, and communication skills.
- Exceptional results throughout academic history.
- A genuine and demonstrable interest in, or affinity for, the Middle East.
- Experience in, or exposure to, advising on Saudi Law aspects of international cross-border transactions is advantageous.
