The Role of Engineering Operations Team Leader

BAE Systems Saudi Arabia is seeking an Engineering Operations Team Leader to join its team in Taif. This full-time role is critical for ensuring that planned maintenance activities are prioritized effectively for the flying program, directly contributing to contract performance targets. The position involves liaising with the Ministry of Finance (MOF), Rectification Control, and Line Control. Candidates should possess 5-10 years of relevant experience, and the role offers a competitive salary.

Key Responsibilities

• Task Aircraft Generation Flight (AGF) maintainers, via MOF schedulers and controllers, to implement configuration or role changes for Squadron aircraft as requested.
• Support the planning of aircraft maintenance activities using Part M fleet daily direction documentation, ensuring allocated aircraft comply with Part M direction and attending scheduled flying planning reviews.
• Compile and maintain aircraft statistics for Flying Hours, TS Typhoon usage, ground technical aborts, sorties, and conversion qualification training for presentation to operations managers, fleet, and the customer.
• Produce and present the daily maintenance brief, informed by thorough research of all aircraft reported faults and associated maintenance activities, to the Squadron Commander and pilots.
• Manage and control aircrew Technical Queries (TQ) in conjunction with the Forward Operations Teamcenter holder(s) and the TSC, ensuring prompt monitoring and response from the Design Organisation.
• Support AMO’s rectification activities by aiding fault diagnosis through pilot debrief and investigating maintenance data records via ESS; present findings to pilots and brief relevant departments.
• Present technical briefs on aircraft systems and maintenance operations issues to the Squadron Commander, trainee, and instructor pilots when requested.
• Undertake aircraft-related projects tasked by the Squadron Commander (with Maintenance Support Team Leader agreement), including supporting customer Unit Inquiries.
• Inform aircrew of aircraft serviceability states, flying requirements and limitations, and maintenance completion forecasts and locations.
• Ensure daily and weekly flying programs are accurately entered into the Typhoon Engineering Support System (ESS).
• Ensure the Flight Line Controller is fully aware of crew walk times, take-off/landing times, land away check requirements, special requirements (*, weather), crew-in faults/Hit Team Red balls, End of Runway (EOR) arrangements, and any emergency states.
• Immediately inform AGF Rectification Control and Line Control of any flying program changes.
• Support pilots when signing out aircraft on ESS, providing assistance as required.
• Act as an information interface, relaying information between Operations and AGF via MOF Control.
• Ensure contact with MOF and AGF personnel involved in aircraft recovery for the flying program and brief updates to the Squadron Duty Officer(s) and Squadron Commander where required.
• Formulate and deliver a training plan to designated Saudi colleagues to prepare them for Eng Ops Controller duties on future Typhoon Squadrons.
• Ensure all personnel engaged in activities within this area of responsibility follow correct operations practices, observe safety precautions, and are not exposed to unnecessary risk.

Required Qualifications and Experience

• Essential:
  • A recognized qualification to NVQ3/ONC/OND/BTEC level in a relevant technical discipline, a technical apprenticeship, or an equivalent technical qualification acceptable to M&CA.
  • Extensive post-qualification practical maintenance experience within an operational flying aircraft environment, supported by formal recorded workplace applied related training, OR substantial exposure on Typhoon aircraft.
  • A working knowledge of the Engineering Support System (ESS).
  • Fluent in English.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain Saudi Council of Engineers (SCE) membership at the appropriate level prior to commencing employment in KSA.
• Desirable:
  • Relevant type training (‘Q’ Course) and equipment-specific training.
  • A good understanding of the MS Office suite, particularly MS Excel, MS Word, and MS PowerPoint.
  • Incorporated or Technician Engineer status with an appropriate professional institute such as the Royal Aeronautical Society or the Institute of Engineering & Technology.
