About BAE Systems Saudi Arabia and the Role
BAE Systems Saudi Arabia is seeking an Aircraft Maintenance Supervisor to join its team in Dhahran. As the UK Government’s nominated Prime Contractor, BAE Systems provides essential equipment, support, and training to Saudi Arabia, including the maintenance of Royal Saudi Air Force (RSAF) aircraft and personnel training. This full-time role operates within a demanding yet fulfilling environment, playing a critical part in ensuring aircraft readiness for the RSAF customer.
Core Responsibilities
The Aircraft Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for overseeing and executing aircraft maintenance activities, balancing the resolution of complex engineering issues with team management. Key responsibilities include:
- Performing First Stage/Mandatory and Independent certification of completed tasks by Maintenance Team Technicians, including Red-X clearance.
- Planning and coordinating scheduled aircraft maintenance activities to meet programme and RSAF operational requirements.
- Ensuring work adheres to approved data, standards, and procedures detailed within the MOE.
- Prioritising tasks according to shop and aircraft schedules and monitoring progress against the programme, providing daily updates.
- Highlighting issues that may impact the aircraft programme to the Team Leader/Maintenance Manager.
- Ensuring timely and accurate information submission for AES and Technical Queries.
- Implementing strict tool control in accordance with established procedures.
- Investigating and reporting on technical issues and accident/incident events.
- Ensuring effective housekeeping programmes are maintained.
- Placing accurate demands for replacement components/parts and monitoring their forecast dates against the project plan.
- Ascertaining the availability of serviceable and calibrated test equipment for planned tasks.
- Maintaining accurate information flow within the designated area of responsibility.
- Ability to tow aircraft and supervise an aircraft towing team.
Supervision and Team Leadership
This role involves significant leadership and team management duties, including:
- Taking action to address poor performance and disciplinary matters.
- Ensuring supervised personnel possess the necessary knowledge and skills for assigned tasks.
- Providing sufficient direct supervision to maintain quality standards.
- Planning shift patterns to ensure effective manpower utilisation.
- Managing sickness and absence in accordance with local policy.
- Providing on-the-job theory and practical training.
- Promoting personal development for self and others.
- Assessing the competency of team personnel and informing the Team Leader/Maintenance Manager of any deficiencies.
- Certifying personnel for specific tasks when certified as a ‘Workplace Trainer’.
Essential Qualifications and Experience
Candidates for this full-time position must possess the following essential qualifications and experience, with an expected range of 5-10 years of relevant experience:
- A recognised qualification to NVQ3/ONC/OND/BTEC level in a relevant technical discipline, or a technical apprenticeship, or a suitable equivalent technical qualification acceptable to M&CA.
- Extensive post-qualification practical maintenance experience within an operational flying aircraft environment, supported by formal recorded workplace applied related training or experience on Tornado Mechanical system testing.
- Relevant type training (‘Q’ Course) and equipment-specific training if required.
- Demonstrated leadership skills and proven ability to supervise engineering personnel at all levels.
Desirable Skills and Knowledge
Preferred candidates will also demonstrate:
- A sound understanding of the RSAF 4-1-7166 series and supporting technical publications applicable to the work area.
- An understanding of RSAF Operation and working practices.
- Working knowledge of Q-pulse, IMS, and an understanding of M&CA processes.
Operational Context
This role is high-profile and involves interfacing with various departments and organisations such as Supply Chain, Workshops, Quality, Product Safety, and MODSAP. The supervisor is expected to prepare for and cooperate with all internal and external audits, ensuring sound maintenance practices and documentation procedures are consistently followed. Establishing and maintaining positive relations with internal and external customers is also a key aspect of this position.
