Field Engineering Piping/Mechanical at Bechtel

Bechtel Corporation, a global leader in engineering, construction, and project management since 1898, is seeking a dedicated Field Engineering Piping/Mechanical professional. This full-time role is based in Saudi Arabia and requires 5-10 years of relevant experience. The position involves critical construction engineering tasks within the mechanical and piping disciplines, ensuring project delivery aligns with design and quality standards.

The Ar Rjum Project Overview

This role supports the Ar Rjum Project, a greenfield gold project located approximately 200 km north-east of Taif towards Riyadh and about 26 km South of Al Mouwayh, within the Central Arabian Gold Region. The project encompasses three open pit mining operations, a processing plant, tailings management facilities, and extensive supporting infrastructure, including water and power supply, maintenance facilities, offices, and accommodation villages.

Core Responsibilities

  • Coordinate with engineering teams on constructability and design issues related to commodity installations and work sequencing.
  • Establish effective piping design/field engineering working relationships and communication channels with the Project Engineer.
  • Specify piping criteria for the construction of temporary facilities as required.
  • Provide field engineering support to superintendents and personnel to meet cost and time schedules, verify materials, equipment, and quality, and ensure design compliance.
  • Develop work plans, coordinate material take-offs and requisitions, perform and document inspections, report progress, and resolve design and construction conflicts for mechanical commodities.
  • Ensure procedural compliance, material control, and comprehensive documentation of inspections for completed work.
  • Direct or perform the preparation of quantity listings for field-purchased material and equipment, and initiate requisitions.
  • Support the preparation of construction drawings and schedules, design of temporary construction facilities, and ensure the preparation of as-built drawings.
  • Support the planning and delivery of construction materials and equipment, ensuring proper warehousing and environmental protection.
  • Review specifications, purchase orders, subcontracts, inspection reports, and technical data to provide site assistance and advice.
  • Interpret design and vendor drawings and specifications.

Candidate Profile and Requirements

  • A minimum of 5-10 years of experience in a relevant field.
  • Physical ability to conduct field inspections and project walk-downs, including extensive walking, climbing ladders and scaffolding, using fall protection, and maneuvering in confined spaces.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, a collaborative team-player approach, and a commitment to knowledge sharing.
  • Ability to solve problems creatively, understand client needs, and provide technical compliance and training.
  • Capability to work effectively within multi-disciplinary, multi-cultural teams and manage diverse relationships.
  • Self-driven with the ability to plan and execute work independently without direct supervision.

Essential Knowledge and Technical Skills

  • Thorough knowledge of all phases of engineering, design, construction, and field activities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Adobe Design Suite software programs.
  • Experience with 3D and 4D modeling software.
  • Knowledge and application of the Zero Accident Safety Philosophy.
  • Broad knowledge of Construction Standard Work Process Procedures.
  • Thorough knowledge of current industry standards.
  • Broad knowledge of the Project Environmental, Safety & Health (ES&H) handbook, the Supervisors ES&H Manual, the Project Safety Management Plan, and Bechtel Core Processes relevant to the area of responsibility.
  • Knowledge of company and project quality policies.
