About the Role
Saudi Aramco is seeking a Linear Programming (LP) Modeling Engineer to join the Supply Planning and Optimization Division. This full-time role involves performing optimization analyses, developing long-term business plans, and evaluating projects. The division is also responsible for managing supply and demand balances for crude oil, gas, NGL, and refined products.
Role Responsibilities
The primary responsibility of this position is to serve as a consultant on complex engineering and LP problems. This includes reviewing existing LP model structures and recommending improvements. The role also involves mentoring new LP engineers and providing structured training.
- Run oil & gas and refinery linear programming models to generate Business Plan level operations for the Hydrocarbon system.
- Collaborate with relevant organizations to determine optimal operating modes for facilities.
- Define data and work processes required for maintaining and updating LP Models.
- Maintain hydrocarbon LP models by adding or deleting process units and updating yields & stream properties.
- Add new flexibilities to ensure full optimization of hydrocarbon systems.
- Work with operation and simulation engineers to ensure the model contains the latest process data.
- Perform “back-casting” and issue monthly reports on LP gaps, along with required mitigations.
- Conduct special economic studies using the LP model.
- Collaborate with different operations divisions to align short-range operating plans with long-term plans in terms of modeling accuracy.
- Ensure that business plans’ LP Models contain the latest information and simulations required for plan development.
- Adapt new best practices in LP modeling.
- Mentor new LP engineers and provide structured training as needed.
- Review actual operations facilities bottlenecks and recommend mitigation measures.
Required Qualifications and Experience
Candidates should possess 5-10 years of experience, with a minimum of 7 years in the Oil and Gas industry or similar process industries. A clear understanding of Crude, Gas, NGL, and Refinery process units’ basic functions is essential.
- Thorough knowledge of engineering practices and economic principles & calculation methods.
- Basic knowledge of AspenTech-PIMS software versions (PIMS, MPIMS, XPIMS, AUP) functionality and uses.
The Division
The Supply Planning and Optimization Division performs optimization analyses, develops long-term business plans, conducts project reviews and evaluations, and develops hydrocarbon operations and systems strategies. The division is also responsible for performing supply and demand balances for all crude oil, gas, NGL, and refined products managed by the company.
