About the Role

Wood is seeking a Principal Mechanical Engineer to join its projects business. This full-time role is based in Saudi Arabia and involves contributing to the development of a new gold mine and processing facility at a remote site. The successful candidate will be responsible for all mechanical equipment engineering design deliverables.

Key Responsibilities

  • Hold single-point responsibility for all mechanical equipment engineering design deliverables, ensuring conformity to applicable codes, standards, and client policies.
  • Provide input for the preparation of Technical Work Practices (TWPs) and Standards.
  • Coordinate the Mechanical team and report to the Project or Engineering Manager on project-related matters.
  • Support the planning, scheduling, and execution of discipline activities and deliverables, including man-hour estimating and schedule preparation for bids/tenders.
  • Originate new and revise existing engineering deliverables, checking them against company procedures, standards, and checklists.
  • Advise and mentor other technical personnel and young Saudi Engineers on design, processes, engineering methods, and code interpretation.
  • Manage discipline work according to schedule and manpower allocation, including supervision of personnel and approval of timesheets, holidays, and overtime where delegated.
  • Manage and report progress of all Mechanical engineering and design budgets in line with contract requirements, including weekly and cumulative productivity.
  • Identify areas of concern regarding progress or quality and recommend corrective actions.
  • Attend weekly internal and external progress meetings and generate status reports for the Engineering/Project Manager.
  • Define minimum acceptance criteria and undertake pre-qualification of third parties.
  • Liaise with Licensors, Equipment Vendors, and OEMs to conclude project deliverables and provide third-party budget costs for stage gate estimates.
  • Define the scope of work for third-party subcontracts and prepare Tender Bid Evaluations and assessments.
  • Review Vendor Documents on Detailed Engineering Projects and provide input to the EPC scope of work and EPC Tender Package for the EXECUTE stage.
  • Coordinate with other disciplines during all stages of design development, construction, pre-commissioning, and start-up to ensure design consistency.
  • Provide technical support to the site for material inspection and Factory Acceptance Testing.
  • Ensure compliance with technical and financial management of change processes.
  • Provide direction and guidance on technical queries related to mechanical engineering and raise appropriate EQ’s/deviations.
  • Participate in all project safety and design reviews and ensure work is completed without compromising quality and delivered according to schedule.
  • Take ownership for Risk Identification, Assessment, Mitigation, Monitoring, and Close Out for the respective discipline.
  • Promote safe behavior, smarter ways of working, and continuous improvement, ensuring all lessons learned are captured and shared.

Qualifications and Experience

  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in mechanical engineering within relevant projects.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage engineering design deliverables and ensure compliance with industry standards.
  • Experience in mining projects, particularly gold mine and processing facilities, is preferred.

Work Environment

This role supports projects at a remote site in Saudi Arabia, focusing on the development of a new gold mine and processing facility. The position is full-time and requires active participation in a dynamic project environment.
