About UMATR and the Opportunity

UMATR is partnering with a technology company that utilizes AI to enhance safety across large-scale industrial and construction environments. This company's platform analyzes live site video to identify potential hazards and provide teams with timely, actionable safety insights. We are seeking a Principal AI Engineer Computer Vision & Video AI to join their team in Al Khobar, Eastern, Saudi Arabia. This is a full-time position offering a salary of up to SAR 50,000 per month.

Role Scope and Technical Leadership

The Principal AI Engineer will assume technical ownership of the AI and perception stack. This role requires a deep technical focus, remaining hands-on while defining architecture, resolving complex computer vision and applied AI challenges, and influencing technical direction across the broader engineering team. The product is centered on video, encompassing computer vision, multimodal models, agentic AI, edge deployment, and real-time systems.

Key Responsibilities

• Own the technical direction for the computer vision and perception stack.
• Design and build production systems for object detection, segmentation, tracking, and video understanding.
• Develop multimodal and vision-language systems capable of reasoning over live and recorded video.
• Construct AI agents that can reason over visual data, utilizing tools and APIs within controlled workflows.
• Manage the full model lifecycle, from problem definition and data strategy through experimentation, deployment, monitoring, and continuous improvement.
• Optimize models across edge and cloud environments, balancing accuracy, latency, reliability, and cost.
• Establish responsible AI and safety controls, including confidence thresholds, human review, explainability, and auditability.
• Lead architecture reviews and document critical technical decisions.

Essential Qualifications and Experience

• Proven experience (5-10 years) in taking multiple production ML or computer vision systems from concept to live operation.
• Deep hands-on experience with video, including streaming, analytics, or computer vision over video.
• Strong experience with PyTorch or TensorFlow across detection, segmentation, tracking, and video understanding.
• Experience with both purpose-built computer vision models and transformer-based approaches.
• Production experience with vision-language or multimodal models, including adaptation, prompting, evaluation, and integration.
• Experience building agentic AI or tool-using systems, incorporating appropriate guardrails and human-in-the-loop controls.
• Strong experience with dataset curation, fine-tuning, active learning, and experiment management.
• Proven experience deploying AI workloads across edge and cloud infrastructure, focusing on real-world latency, throughput, and memory constraints.
• Strong MLOps and evaluation experience, including regression testing, experiment tracking, model versioning, monitoring, and drift detection.

Advantageous Skills and Technologies

• Experience with RAG, vector search, or multimodal retrieval.
• Familiarity with real-time video or streaming camera systems.
• Knowledge of edge AI technologies such as TensorRT, ONNX Runtime, Jetson, or other GPU/NPU platforms.
• Experience with self-hosted LLM/VLM serving using tools like vLLM or similar.
• Background in safety-critical, industrial, or construction environments.
• Knowledge of EHS or workplace safety frameworks.
• Experience with privacy-focused video systems, including anonymization, access controls, and audit trails.
