About the Role

HSBC is seeking a motivated Associate to join its Infrastructure Finance (IF) business in Riyadh. This full-time position is integral to originating, advising on, structuring, and executing transactions for large-scale infrastructure projects. The role supports the Riyadh and Dubai-based teams in the origination and execution of IF transactions within the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA), reporting to the Co-Head of Infrastructure Finance, MENAT, based in KSA.

Role Context and Purpose

HSBC Saudi Arabia provides investment banking services, with the global HSBC Infrastructure Finance (HIF) team offering a comprehensive suite of financing solutions across sectors including Energy Transition, Infrastructure, Transportation, Power and Utilities, Renewables, and Petrochemicals. The team advises on financing, capital structure, and structured debt capital markets, alongside originating and executing infrastructure, project, and export finance lending mandates. Within KSA, the HIF team focuses on advising clients on debt raising for infrastructure finance, procurement of PPP/BOOT transactions, and supporting infrastructure finance balance sheet deployment for HSBC Group entities and Saudi Awwal Bank (SAB). The IF team also originates ECA-backed transactions in cooperation with HSBC's Export Finance team.

Principal Responsibilities

• Originate infrastructure financing advisory and debt arrangement opportunities in KSA, in coordination with product and coverage teams, and SAB.
• Lead or support the execution of infrastructure financing mandates in collaboration with relevant teams.
• Collaborate across multi-functional teams to deliver HSBC’s universal banking product range and maximize cross-sell opportunities.
• Conduct industry and company-specific research, sharing market trends and insights with relevant teams.
• Prepare deliverables including pitch books, letters of interest, term sheets, mandate letters, and facility documentation.
• Coordinate with internal stakeholders (legal, compliance, risk, sustainability, markets sales) on transaction-specific matters.
• Assist with reporting and managing information requests.
• Contribute to the development of junior resources through knowledge sharing and mentoring.
• Originate syndication and distribution of KSA-related infrastructure finance transactions.
• Negotiate facility documentation with clients and counterparties, in liaison with other teams.
• Ensure adherence to regulatory requirements.

Qualifications and Experience

Candidates should possess:

• A Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Business, Finance, or Engineering.
• Over 3 years of experience and a track record in project/infrastructure financing transactions; infrastructure advisory experience is also considered.
• Experience with transactions in KSA or the wider Middle East region, with an understanding of the local/regional infrastructure financing market and stakeholders.
• Experience in Energy Transition sectors and loan distribution will be an advantage.
• A CFA charter will be considered a plus.

Required Skills

• Excellent verbal and written communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to convey complex information clearly and influence stakeholders.
• Strong analytical capabilities with a commercial orientation and understanding of various debt products, including loans, bonds, ratings, and derivatives.
• Project management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and perform under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
• Proficiency in Arabic will be an advantage.

Work Environment and Compliance

This role is based in Riyadh and is a full-time position. Employees are expected to understand and comply with all relevant internal and external rules, regulations, and procedures. Maintaining HSBC internal control standards, including timely implementation of audit points and addressing issues raised by regulators, is essential. Upholding the highest level of integrity and acting as a role model for HSBC values and business principles is required.
