About the Role

Compass Project Consulting, an award-winning consultancy, is seeking a highly experienced Commercial Director to join its team in Riyadh. This full-time position requires a strategic leader to oversee the commercial and contractual management of large-scale, complex infrastructure and development programs within a giga-project environment. The role demands significant expertise in managing high-value contracts, claims, and executive-level commercial decision-making.

Role Context and Responsibilities

The Commercial Director will provide strategic commercial leadership across major development and infrastructure packages. Key responsibilities include managing complex contractual matters, including correspondence with potential claims implications, and leading the preparation, review, and response to high-level contractual communications in line with contractual obligations. This role involves overseeing variations, claims, compensation events, and dispute avoidance/resolution strategies, ensuring commercial risks are identified and mitigated effectively.

• Providing executive-level commercial advice to senior stakeholders and project leadership teams.
• Reviewing and approving all major commercial submissions, reports, and contractual deliverables.
• Leading negotiations of contractual positions with contractors and stakeholders.
• Ensuring compliance with international standard forms of contract, such as FIDIC.
• Supporting financial forecasting, cost control, and commercial reporting at the programme level.
• Mentoring and guiding senior commercial and contract management teams.

Candidate Qualifications

Candidates must possess 15–20+ years of experience in commercial management, specifically within major infrastructure, real estate, or giga-project environments. Proven experience in managing large-scale, high-value programmes with complex stakeholder structures is essential. A strong background in commercial strategy, contract administration, and negotiation is required, along with demonstrated experience handling claims, disputes, and contractual risk exposure. Experience working in fast-paced, multi-package development environments is also necessary.

• Strong expertise in FIDIC and similar international contract frameworks.
• A degree in Quantity Surveying, Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related discipline is required; MRICS is preferred.
• Significant leadership experience at a senior or director level.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong commercial judgment combined with a strategic mindset, functioning as a confident decision-maker at the executive level. Excellent stakeholder management and negotiation skills are critical. The ability to manage high-pressure, high-risk contractual environments is essential, alongside a detail-oriented approach with strong analytical and contractual interpretation capabilities. A proactive, solution-driven, and commercially assertive attitude is expected.
