About AtkinsRéalis and the Role

AtkinsRéalis is seeking a Design Manager to join our team in Riyadh. This full-time role is focused on managing multidisciplinary design delivery across projects within the KSA and GCC Region. The Design Manager is a skilled professional responsible for planning, coordinating, and overseeing the design process to ensure the successful delivery of small to medium-scale and low-complexity projects.

Core Responsibilities

The selected candidate will work closely with the project delivery team to establish project objectives and contribute to the Project Execution Plan. This role involves overseeing design programme inputs, ensuring project alignment throughout the lifecycle, and ensuring design activities remain on track. Key responsibilities include:

  • Ensuring key milestones are achieved and project management standards and procedures are consistently applied.
  • Managing and assigning tasks to the design team, ensuring necessary tools, resources, and technical support are available.
  • Actively overseeing the quality of work, ensuring deliverables are reviewed and approved prior to submission.
  • Maintaining project documentation, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, and upholding the company's project management methodology.

Design Management and Project Execution

This position requires comprehensive involvement in the technical and strategic aspects of design delivery. The Design Manager will:

  • Convene, coordinate, and manage the overall technical input of the multidisciplinary design team for high-quality outputs.
  • Create and maintain the Design Management Plan (DMP) in collaboration with the Project Manager and design team.
  • Be accountable for the design coordination process, including interfaces between disciplines, sub-consultants, and third parties.
  • Compile technical input into change management requirements and coordinate impact assessments.
  • Develop strategies for project design packaging to align with phasing and schedules.
  • Develop a multi-disciplinary programme with buy-in from technical leads that aligns with project requirements.
  • Support the technical set-up of project deliverables and models, including document structure and tracking.
  • Track design progress, identify risks or constraints, and support mitigation actions within defined budgets.
  • Confirm that contractual deliverables have been met prior to invoice production.
  • Compile potential scope gaps, changes, and variations, assessing impacts on time and effort.

Client and Team Engagement

The role involves significant interaction with clients and fostering a collaborative team environment. Responsibilities include:

  • Day-to-day technical engagement with the Client's technical team and managing client expectations.
  • Interacting with the Client technical team to achieve consensus on design philosophies and outcomes.
  • Supporting the delivery of project outcomes that meet or exceed client requirements.
  • Promoting collaboration and consistent engagement across technical package leaders and sub-consultants.
  • Providing advice and appropriate technical resources to address Client queries and design comments.
  • Supporting stakeholder engagement and approvals processes, ensuring submissions align with client and statutory requirements.

Qualifications and Experience

Candidates for this position should demonstrate a strong background in design management within the Middle East region:

  • A minimum of 8 years' experience in the Middle East.
  • Proven experience working within a multidisciplinary design or built environment consultancy.
  • At least 3 years' experience in Design Management or similar roles.

Location and Work Type

This is a full-time position based in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, with project involvement across the KSA and wider GCC Region.
