About the HYCO Shift Supervisor Role
Air Products is seeking a HYCO Operations Shift Supervisor to manage and oversee shift operations for BHIG facilities in Eastern, Saudi Arabia, specifically in Al Jubail. This full-time role involves leading a team of shift leads and operators responsible for a Hydrogen Steam Methane Reformer, CO2 Removal and Compression units, HPSA, Membrane Unit, associated utilities, and a pipeline network.
Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities
The HYCO Operations Shift Supervisor is accountable for the day-to-day management of plant shift operations. This includes conducting daily customer production meetings, maintaining close communication with feedstock and utility suppliers to achieve operational targets, and collaborating with Maintenance and Engineering teams to ensure safe and reliable site operations. The role also involves ensuring staff are adequately trained, executing daily tasks such as preparing and implementing safety work permits and LOTO procedures, completing preventative maintenance activities, and assisting with corrective maintenance.
- Providing and maintaining a safe work environment, demonstrating leadership in safe work processes.
- Directing staff for the HYCO Steam Methane Reformer unit and ancillary equipment according to Work Instruction Procedures.
- Operating the unit as required and providing technical guidance during startups, shutdowns, and emergencies.
- Ensuring compliance with environmental regulations and maintenance tasks (CM, PM).
- Managing plant production efficiently based on data-driven decisions to meet safety, reliability, and profitability targets.
- Ensuring the safety of all operations personnel through adherence to BHIG Basic Safety Practice programs.
- Building plant technical capability and providing coaching to the operations team.
- Participating in and leading incident investigations and Root Cause Analysis.
- Acting as the Single Point of Contact for internal HYCO unit issues.
- Ensuring the accuracy and compliance of all operational logs and inspecting active leaks daily.
Technical and Operational Oversight
This role requires providing direction and guidance based on technical feedback from site management, Engineering, and Maintenance for troubleshooting and repair activities. The supervisor is responsible for maintaining accurate document control, monitoring quality assurance initiatives, and providing operations input for scheduled outages to meet contractual requirements. Efficient plant production management, focusing on safety, reliability, and optimal energy efficiency, is critical. The supervisor will also work closely with internal teams and customer counterparts to ensure alignment on product demand and expectations.
Leadership and Team Development
A key aspect of this role is developing and promoting top-performing personnel who achieve success through teamwork, are customer and employee-focused, and foster open communication. The supervisor is expected to build a 'one team' environment and provide coaching and motivation to achieve operational excellence and customer satisfaction. This includes developing the plant's technical capability and ensuring BHIG standards and global best practices for EH&S, productivity, reliability, and quality are met.
Minimum Qualifications and Experience
Candidates should possess a Bachelor’s degree in Chemical, Mechanical, or Chemical Process Operations, or an associate technical degree with equivalent experience. A minimum of 10 years of experience in gas, petrochemical, or related industries is required, with at least 4 years in a direct line supervision of process operations role. Demonstrated HYCO knowledge is a plus. The role requires proven coordination experience in a multi-team environment, strong leadership, interpersonal, and teamwork skills, with the ability to communicate effectively at all organizational levels. Proficiency in English speaking and writing is essential, along with knowledge of local environmental and health and safety requirements.
Work Environment and Location
This is a full-time position based in Al Jubail, Eastern, Saudi Arabia. The HYCO Operations Supervisor is considered an extension of the operating team and is expected to engage in plant operations when required. The role demands the ability to manage customer interactions on a daily basis and maintain strong working relationships with engineering and maintenance personnel.
