About the HYCO Shift Supervisor Role

Air Products is seeking a HYCO Shift Supervisor to join their team in Al Jubail, Eastern Region. This full-time position involves overseeing the operations of the HYCO Steam Methane Reformer unit and related equipment, ensuring safety, reliability, and efficient production. The role requires a strong technical background and leadership capabilities to manage a team and collaborate with various departments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide and maintain a safe work environment, demonstrating leadership in all company and industry safe work processes to prevent injuries.
  • Direct staff operating the HYCO Steam Methane Reformer unit and ancillary equipment according to Work Instruction Procedures, operating the unit when necessary.
  • Offer technical direction and guidance for troubleshooting, maintenance, repair, and testing activities based on feedback from management and engineering.
  • Provide operational support, guidance, and leadership during plant startups, shutdowns, and emergencies, maintaining accurate document control and quality assurance.
  • Ensure the safety, reliability, and maintainability of equipment, processes, utilities, facilities, controls, and safety/security systems.
  • Contribute operational input for scheduled outages to meet contractual requirements.
  • Manage plant production efficiently using data-driven decisions to meet safety and reliability targets for maximum profitability.
  • Collaborate with shift teams, management, and engineering to achieve production targets, optimize energy efficiency, and ensure safe plant operations.
  • Ensure adherence to environmental regulatory requirements and compliance with all maintenance tasks (CM, PM).
  • Support and prepare for shutdown and turnaround planning.
  • Uphold Air Products and APQ standards, and global best practices for EH&S, productivity, reliability, quality, and customer service.
  • Meet customer satisfaction regarding safety, reliability, product quality, and supply flexibility.
  • Build plant technical capability through coordination with management and engineering teams.
  • Coach and motivate the operations team to achieve operational excellence and customer satisfaction.
  • Develop, train, and promote high-performing personnel.
  • Establish and maintain close working relationships with engineering and maintenance personnel to monitor plant systems and equipment.
  • Participate in and lead incident investigations and Root Cause Analysis, implementing corrective actions.
  • Act as the Single Point of Contact for internal HYCO unit issues, representing APQ and coordinating resources.
  • Facilitate operational excellence and customer satisfaction through productivity, reliability, quality, cost reduction, and continuous improvement.
  • Maintain relationships with customer counterparts to ensure alignment of expectations for product demand.
  • Ensure accuracy and compliance of operator logs and personal logs.
  • Review and ensure proper actions are taken on all event manager logs daily.
  • Inspect active leaks each shift and report any degradation.
  • Audit, review, and assign actions for operator logs daily.
  • Ensure completion of the team’s work list on daily, weekly, monthly, and annual basis.
  • Oversee the implementation of mitigation plans for all high-level safety, environment, availability, utilization, and energy risk log items.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical, Mechanical, or Chemical Process Operations is preferred. An associate technical degree will be considered based on experience and competence.
  • Experience in gas, petrochemical, or related industries in operations, engineering, and/or maintenance.
  • Demonstrated HYCO knowledge is a plus.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience, with at least 4 years in a line supervision of process operations role.
  • Proficiency in English speaking and writing.
  • Knowledge and understanding of local environmental and health and safety requirements.

Required Skills and Competencies

  • Proven coordination experience in a multi-team environment including operations, engineering, and maintenance.
  • Good leadership, interpersonal, and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively at all organizational levels and externally.
  • Ability to communicate and manage customer interactions on a daily basis.
  • Wide technical knowledge in operations, engineering, and maintenance activities.
  • Ability to promote a 'one team' environment.

Work Environment and Expectations

This is a full-time position based in Al Jubail. The HYCO Operations Supervisor is expected to be an extension of the operating team and engage in plant operations when required. Operators within the team are expected to achieve 'Level 1 / Board Level' status within 2-4 years, with evaluations determining their placement. Leadership positions are expected to follow a progression process.
