Job Description

About the Role

Engie is seeking a Contract Manager to join its team in Al Qassim, Al Qasim, Saudi Arabia. This is a contract position focused on the BESS Project in KSA, a renewable energy initiative. The role involves contributing to the full lifecycle of a 500MW/2000MWh BESS plant, from design and engineering through construction and operation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure contract management and administration align with the BESS OEM Agreement, BOP Contract, SSA, project requirements, and regulatory standards.
  • Develop and implement plans, procedures, and systems for contract administration, compliance, governance, documentation, and reporting.
  • Inform Project Management and technical teams of contractual obligations, deliverables, milestones, interfaces, risks, and impacts.
  • Manage and enforce the BESS OEM’s contractual obligations, including equipment supply, deliverables, milestones, technical requirements, testing, commissioning, performance guarantees, and warranties.
  • Monitor the BESS OEM’s performance against KPIs, milestones, deliverables, and schedule, identifying and escalating deviations.
  • Manage contractual interfaces between the BESS OEM and BOP Contractor, ensuring clear responsibilities and timely resolution of issues.
  • Negotiate with the BOP Contractor and BESS OEM, within delegated authority, to resolve contractual issues and ensure compliance.
  • Manage all contractual events, including notifications, changes, variations, extensions of time, claims, and communications, ensuring adherence to timeframes.
  • Review contractual documents to identify risks, opportunities, gaps, ambiguities, and potential impacts on project cost, schedule, and performance.
  • Develop and implement contract risk management strategies to mitigate commercial risks and protect the Project Company’s rights.
  • Advise the Project Management team on contractual implications of proposed changes, technical decisions, delays, and instructions.
  • Ensure contractual changes from change requests are assessed, negotiated, documented, approved, and incorporated.
  • Support claims management involving project parties, ensuring claims are notified, substantiated, assessed, negotiated, and resolved.
  • Monitor and enforce contractual provisions related to liquidated damages, performance guarantees, warranties, and other remedies.
  • Ensure timely arrangement, administration, monitoring, renewal, and enforcement of project bonds, guarantees, and insurances.
  • Maintain monitoring and reporting systems for contract compliance, obligations, milestones, deliverables, claims, variations, risks, and performance.
  • Ensure all contractual notices, responses, and communications are prepared and issued within required timeframes.
  • Maintain comprehensive and auditable contractual records.
  • Monitor contractual interfaces and dependencies between project agreements to identify potential gaps or conflicting obligations.
  • Promote compliance with SHEQ procedures and sustainability requirements within contract management activities.
  • Support the development and implementation of mitigation plans for contractual events.
  • Ensure contract management activities are planned, tracked, and scheduled without adversely affecting project objectives.
  • Proactively identify contractual issues and potential disputes, working with stakeholders to resolve them.
  • Support the collection and sharing of Return of Experience (REX) and Lessons Learned.

Decision Making and Collaboration

  • Act independently to prioritize, initiate, resolve, and complete contract management actions.
  • Seek, organize, and exchange information for decision-making and problem-solving in contract management.
  • Provide the CFO with contract performance reports and recommendations for modifications.
  • Assist and advise on the implementation of improvement and mitigation actions following incident investigations.
  • Communicate effectively with internal departments (Finance, Procurement, Operations, Legal, HSE, HR).
  • Coordinate relations with the Owner, Off-Taker, Government Authorities, Contractors, and other stakeholders.
  • Build effective relationships with key stakeholders, contractors, suppliers, and vendors.
  • Liaise with the Project Company CEO, Construction Director, Owners Engineer, and legal team for critical contractual correspondences.

Required Experience and Competencies

  • Over 10 years of experience in contract management.
  • Demonstrated strong contractual, commercial, negotiation, risk management, communication, stakeholder management, and problem-solving competencies.
  • Ability to manage multiple contractual interfaces within a complex BESS project environment.

Key Relationships

The Contract Manager will interact with various internal and external stakeholders to ensure project success.

  • Internal: Project Company Management team, Employees, Owner Engineering team, Contractors & Subcontractors, Internal Stakeholders representatives & visitors.
  • External: BOP Contractor, OEM, Government Regulatory authorities, Offtaker, Other Contractors.
