About the Cardiovascular Technician Role
Johns Hopkins Aramco Healthcare is seeking a qualified Cardiovascular Technician to join their team in Al Qatif. This full-time position involves performing a range of technical and non-technical functions within the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory (CCL), supporting both in-patient and out-patient services. The role operates within the Johns Hopkins Aramco Healthcare Nursing & Clinical Services Organization.
Role Overview and Responsibilities
Under the direct supervision of a Senior Cardiovascular Tech, the Cardiovascular Technician will carry out specialized therapeutic, technical, and diagnostic procedures using complex equipment. This includes operating and troubleshooting radiographic equipment, hemodynamic monitors, digital subtraction angiography units, pacemaker programming units, contrast power injectors, and patient monitoring equipment. The technician will perform diagnostic and interventional CCL procedures according to established policies, ensuring radiation safety protocols are followed. Key responsibilities include functioning as a scrub assistant, monitoring patient hemodynamics, assisting in patient resuscitation and care, and maintaining accurate procedural records and archiving. The role also involves managing CCL supplies and coordinating equipment maintenance with the Clinical Engineering Unit.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Activating, operating, and troubleshooting all CCL equipment, including radiographic units, hemodynamic monitors, and contrast injectors.
- Performing diagnostic and interventional CCL procedures in accordance with evidence-based practice and policy.
- Utilizing proper exposure factors, acquisition programming, and tableside controls during procedures.
- Ensuring adherence to radiation safety and protection guidelines.
- Serving as a scrub assistant during CCL procedures.
- Monitoring patient cardiac rhythm and hemodynamic values during procedures.
- Assisting CCL staff during patient resuscitation efforts.
- Supporting patient preparation, movement, monitoring, and transportation before, during, and after procedures.
- Ensuring permanent records of all CCL procedures are stored and medical records are up to date.
- Generating CD copies of CCL procedures as requested.
- Completing inventory counts and coordinating with Supply Chain for timely ordering of supplies.
- Coordinating with Clinical Engineering for maintenance and repair of CCL machinery.
- Maintaining continuing education and attending relevant workshops.
- Participating in Quality Program and Safety initiatives for the Cath Lab.
- Reporting and following up on discrepancies in the Picture Archiving and Communication System.
- Implementing new practices and protocols as directed.
- Treating all individuals with courtesy, respect, and care.
- Maintaining confidentiality of patient-related discussions.
- Immediately reporting abnormal findings to the Senior Cardiovascular Tech, Cardiologist, and team.
- Supporting a culture of quality and safety within the unit.
- Assuring patient comfort and dignity during transport.
- Reading and responding to all communications.
- Demonstrating effective collaboration and team behaviors.
Qualifications and Requirements
Candidates for this role should possess a High School diploma (12 years of schooling) and a 2-Year Diploma/Associate Degree in Cardiovascular or Radiology Technology. A Bachelor of Science degree in Cardiac Technology is preferred. A minimum of 2 years of work experience as a Cardiovascular Tech in a Cardiac Cath Lab is required, along with the completion of a Cardiovascular Technology internship program. Preferred certifications include Cardiac-Interventional (CI), Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS), or Registered Cardiovascular Electrophysiology Specialist (RCES). Applicants must meet the requirements of the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties / Ministry Of Health. Basic computer skills are desirable, and working knowledge of spoken and written English is essential. Spoken Arabic is desirable.
Work Environment and Interactions
This role involves routine daily contact with Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory Unit staff, Clinical Engineering Unit staff, CSS staff, hospital staff, clinic staff, and auxiliary medical personnel. Frequent contact is expected with clinicians and patients. Occasional interaction with other JHAH and outside services may occur. While most work is performed during normal working hours, the incumbent must be available for on-call duties and may be required to work shifts. The position is located in Al Qatif.
