About the Role
AtkinsRéalis is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Structural Engineer to join our team in Dammam, Eastern Region. This full-time position supports the delivery of high-quality engineering solutions within railway projects, focusing on assessing and overseeing civil and building structures. The role requires a minimum of 10 years of experience, with a strong emphasis on technical review and construction supervision.
Role Overview and Responsibilities
The Structural Engineer will be responsible for the technical review and supervision of construction works related to structural disciplines for new and updated railway facilities. This includes assessing civil structures such as bridges and culverts, as well as building structures for railway-related facilities. The successful candidate will perform detailed reviews of technical documentation, ensuring full compliance with applicable standards and requirements to achieve robust and compliant engineering outcomes.
- Provide expert guidance and oversight on all structural engineering aspects of transportation projects, ensuring compliance with requirements, local regulations, and international standards.
- Collaborate with design and construction teams to review and evaluate structural drawings, specifications, and calculations.
- Conduct site inspections to assess structural integrity, identify potential risks, and propose mitigation solutions.
- Monitor the progress of structural works on-site, ensuring adherence to approved designs, specifications, and quality standards.
- Resolve structural-related issues or challenges encountered during construction in coordination with contractors and suppliers.
- Review and approve method statements, shop drawings, and material submittals related to structural works.
- Conduct regular structural assessments and provide recommendations for strengthening or modification.
- Prepare comprehensive reports, documentation, and correspondence related to structural engineering activities.
- Act as a technical liaison between the project team, clients, and relevant authorities.
- Contribute to multidisciplinary reviews of technical documents to ensure full coordination of deliverables.
- Participate in producing and reviewing value engineering proposals.
- Conduct quality inspections and oversee the installation, testing, and commissioning of structural works, ensuring compliance with safety standards and regulations.
- Monitor and report on project progress, identifying and addressing potential issues and deviations.
- Ensure adherence to the project and company quality program and policies.
- Stay updated on the latest engineering technologies and best practices.
- Provide technical support and guidance to project teams.
- Promote a culture of safety.
- Perform walkdowns, attend site visits, and meetings as required.
Technical Documentation Review
A key aspect of this role involves the thorough review of technical documentation. This includes, but is not limited to, design submissions at various stages, shop drawings, as-built drawings, calculations, assessments, technical specifications, interface documents, value engineering reports, material requests, system code classifications, and bills of quantities. The review process must ensure completeness and compliance with project requirements, interfaces, stakeholder needs, and applicable standards.
Qualifications and Experience
- Engineering degree from a reputable institution in Structural Engineering. A Master's degree is considered a plus.
- A minimum of 10 years of experience in structural engineering, preferably combining construction supervision and technical review.
- Experience performing engineering work in accordance with railway systems procedures, standards, and practices, and KSA regulatory requirements.
- Good knowledge of fire protection aspects and requirements applicable to structural assets.
- Knowledge of environmental and sustainability practices in engineering.
- Working knowledge of or experience using structural codes and standards applicable to railway systems in KSA, including but not limited to Saudi Building Code, Civil Defence requirements, and NFPA standards.
- Experience in analyzing project requirements and checking for their implementation in technical documentation and site works through site inspections and testing processes.
