Job Description

About the Role

Al Qaryan Group is seeking a Unit Head Mechanical & Hydraulic Maintenance to join their team in Dammam, Eastern region. This full-time role is critical for ensuring the maximum operational availability, structural integrity, and reliability of heavy processing machinery within the recycling facility. The position focuses on transforming reactive maintenance into a predictable, safe, and cost-effective operation that supports production and metal recovery targets.

Role Purpose and Context

The Unit Head of Mechanical & Hydraulic Maintenance is responsible for minimizing unscheduled downtime in a high-wear environment. This involves executing precise mechanical engineering practices and implementing world-class hydraulic contamination control. The ultimate goal is to enhance the reliability and efficiency of heavy machinery, directly contributing to the plant's operational objectives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Hydraulic & Fluid Power Engineering: Oversee troubleshooting, tuning, and maintenance of high-pressure hydraulic circuits for mega-shears, balers, and briquetting presses. Enforce strict oil analysis, offline filtration, and cooling protocols to protect sensitive components. Manage the rebuilding of hydraulic cylinders, accumulators, and high-flow pumps.
  • Mechanical Reliability & Heavy Asset Care: Direct structural maintenance, rotor balancing, grid plate rotations, and wear-liner replacement schedules for industrial hammer mills. Optimize laser alignment and lubrication for industrial gearboxes, cardan shafts, flexible couplings, and heavy-duty motors. Maintain mechanical elements of steel-belt feeders, rubber conveyors, magnetic drums, eddy current separators, and air-classification systems.
  • Shutdown Planning & Execution: Lead technical planning, scheduling, and execution of major planned shutdowns for hammer rotations, anvil rebuilding, and structural hard-facing. Supervise external specialized mechanical, machining, and rigging crews during critical shutdown periods.
  • Workshop, Fabrication & Spares Management: Maintain an accurate inventory of long-lead critical parts such as shredder hammers, hydraulic cartridges, custom bearings, and seal kits. Oversee the machine and welding shop to ensure structural repairs, hard-face welding, and custom component modifications meet rigorous engineering standards.

Qualifications and Experience

  • A minimum of 5-10 years of relevant experience in mechanical and hydraulic maintenance, preferably within a heavy industrial or recycling environment.
  • Demonstrated expertise in hydraulic system optimization and contamination control.
  • Proven ability to manage heavy asset care, including industrial shredders, mills, and drive systems.
  • Experience in leading and executing planned maintenance shutdowns.
  • Strong understanding of critical spares management and on-site fabrication processes.

Work Environment

This role operates within a demanding, high-wear recycling facility environment, requiring a proactive approach to maintenance and reliability. The position is full-time and based in Dammam.
