Role Purpose

The Completion & Well Intervention Engineer is responsible for comprehensive well engineering and operational support across one or more completion/workover rigs or rigless completion operations. This includes the preparation of detailed Completion and Workover Programs, procedures, and Authorization for Expenditure (AFEs). The role also involves supervising and mentoring Field Engineers (FETs) and junior engineers, and providing technical advisory at critical wellsite operations as necessary.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with Subsurface and Production teams to ensure completion and workover plans meet project requirements and objectives.
  • Review Completion Basis of Design and perform detailed design checks.
  • Evaluate all completion hardware components for compatibility, clearances, setting parameters, and couplings.
  • Review regulatory requirements to determine downhole and surface safety equipment needs and confirm compliance of the final equipment configuration.
  • Assess current well status and well integrity.
  • Prepare final well status reports post-completion or workover.
  • Develop completion/workover operations flowcharts and contingency plans.
  • Confirm final hardware design and compatibility (stimulation, treating, production) using TDAS.
  • Write programs for making up sub-assemblies, drifting, gauging, and pressure testing prior to running in hole (RIH).
  • Determine required fluid density and composition for formation compatibility to minimize damage and manage fluid losses.
  • Review and determine compatibility of all slickline and wireline operations.
  • Review fishing tool requirements and alternatives for workover operations.
  • Write programs for setting cement plugs, such as squeezing perforations, and any remedial cementing during workover.
  • Review and ensure compliance with high-pressure treating standards.
  • Ensure compliance with IPM Standards for Simultaneous Activities and Barrier Standards when removing the BOP and installing the Christmas Tree.
  • Prepare Completion/Workover Programs and technically oversee their execution.
  • Prepare Completion/Workover procedures, time estimates, and AFEs.
  • Review programs with all involved parties, including drilling contractors, completion, wellhead, and slickline teams.
  • Participate in the selection and evaluation of service companies, suppliers, and equipment.
  • Ensure proper communication with relevant parties, including clients, Product Lines, and third parties.
  • Contribute to cost control of programs versus AFE by analyzing solutions.
  • Review new technology for potential project application.
  • Utilize InTouch for best practices, lessons learned, and technical alerts.
  • Participate in Hazard and Risk Assessments (HARCs).
  • Prepare requests for exemptions to IPM Standards in QUEST.
  • Enter Service Quality (SQ) RIRs resulting from Completion/Workover operations in QUEST.
  • Prepare Management of Change for Completion/Workover programs.
  • Forecast and plan medium and long-term needs to meet program requirements.
  • Anticipate operational changes and needs, revising plans accordingly.
  • Participate in Daily Operations Meetings.
  • Perform QA/QC of data in Daily Reports.
  • Monitor daily progress against plan and actual costs versus AFE.
  • Record and monitor operational Non-Productive Time (NPT) trends.
  • Evaluate results versus goals and the performance of service companies.
  • Initiate engineering corrective actions to ensure continuous improvement.
  • Conduct engineering studies to resolve recurring problems, such as completion hardware issues.

Qualifications and Experience

  • 5–8 years of experience in drilling, completion, workover, and/or well intervention engineering within the oil & gas industry.
